relatively new to bjj here i really enjoy it! I currently strength train 3- 5 days a week and go to bjj 3-4 classes per week, unfortunately i find if i go anymore i start to become run down with colds etc. I enjoy both hobbies equally and find this is a nice balance for me.

Has anyone ever improved there bjj game by writing notes etc in a copybook , maybe after practice or spider diagrams depicting what subs sweeps etc you know from certain positions, or maybe visualising drilling a technique while meditating etc

Just wandering does anyone do any of the above ?

finished 2nd in my weight class at the abu dhabi trials in MTL and then lost my first fight of the absolute to a really ugly looking kid from atos who flew in from california.

It was the first time iv`e ever been subbed in a tournament and it was from a fkn omoplata...

a guy from my gym got second in his division there (brown belt) and third in absolute, the guy from atos with the huge fro took absolute brown, guy is a beast

when preparing for a comp, my coach would tell us to write a few things down before bed each night.
what we learned today that we either struggled with or excelled at
and what you want to work on
just helps it stay fresh in your mind.

and everyones brains work differently. john danaher is like a computer with how he approaches BJJ, and more than likely benefits from a truly analytical approach like writing down and dissecting chit etc.

Its crazy how good some of those guys are.

I consider myself one of the better blue belts in canada but this kid completely outclassed me.

It`s impossible to train as much as you want while still being a student and working part-time.

most gyms will give you a 1 - 2 week trial period so you can see how you like it without having to commit to anything

First competition is on Sunday. Competing at 85kg and absolute for GI, and 77kg+ & absolute for no GI. I will try and have everything filmed to welcome constructive criticism, I'm sure there will be no shortage of it haha I'm only a 3stripe white.

Sad news guys. Catch-as-Catch-Can wrestling legend Billy Robinson died a few days ago. I wouldn't be surprised if many of you havnt heard of him, (which is too bad), but he was the guy that trained Sakuraba, the "Gracie Hunter." He may not have been a BJJ guy, but there is no doubt Catch can stand up with any submission fighting style.

I wont say much because I was only able to train with him a handful of times and I dont want to make an ignorant claim of association with him, but its been a big blow to many members of my gym.

Even the handful of times I trained with him I appreciated his attention to detail and vehemence about making sure you were doing it right. He was proof that just because a technique seems new, doesnt mean it hasnt been done before or even done better.

I recommend you guys look up some of his stuff and work some Catch into your game. Its a great style for constantly making your opponent hurt and make mistakes.

I ruined my back going inverted for every drill and technique on sunday. Haven't been able to do much since. Heat packs have made it feel slightly better I guess.

I was actually wondering what was so bad about the video when he starts talking about chin position (I assumed he was going to say put it towards the crook of the elbow or whatever). I was like wtf after lol, I might try it just for the lols though sometime.


On another note, my balls are ****ing aching badly. Was hitting armbars and triangles all night at open mat and kept getting such bad ball position on them I actually bailed on one because I was like no way can I finish this if I want to have kids later in life.

Here are my fights in chronological order. I've made a few annotations on the videos where I lost to note out things I should have done or can improve on. I'm looking for any and all advice guys, started training in November.
