So a question for you all seeing as we have now after this last weekends 3peat by Phil entered a new dynasty or reign under "The Gift" and at 33 years of age it seems to have no end in sight, to the dismay of many on this forum and in the BB community. i must ask though has there ever been such a hatred and lack of respect for any other of the 13 Mr. Olympias? i know that a lot of people dislike Zane for his small size and Cutler for his well being a "fridge" and i can only image what the Dorian era was like having a champion who was given the nickname "The Shadow" for his lack of presence all year until the O night where he would upset so many fans by taking down well loved characters like Shawn, Kevin, & Flex.

I remember when i first got to this forum, 07 or 08, ronnie was very criticized and even made fun off due to his distended gut.
Phil is certainly not the most well liked top pro at the moment, but minor things like crossing the line will fade with time. His accomplishments however, will be part of our sports history for as long as it exists.

Take into account that the overall level of internet maturity has been steadily dropping these past few years.
Realize that all this marketing to the mainstream public does in fact attract at least some laymen into the scene.
These people are stupid and ignorant for the most part.
But not oblivious enough to not make a forum account, so there you have it - the reason for a lot of this whining.People these days have more reps than brain cells

3 Sandows at 33, kinda cool. He's a fantastic Bodybuilder, one of my favorite all time physiques. I have nothing but respect for Phil. I have seen some of the attitude people have brought up, and it certainly differs from the pre-2012 Heath. The thing is, he shows up and has the goods to back it all up, every time. I try not to take any of the BB world gossip too seriously.

I don't know, it's weird because even though Phil has won 3 O's, Jay remains the face of bodybuilding and has done so over the last few years even with his time off and Kai seems to get talked about more than Phil. It just doesn't feel the same as when Ronnie and Jay were carrying the crown... <shrugs> No hate on Phil, it is just kind of how it is for whatever reason.

I wouldn't be surprised if Phil is the most disliked Mr. Olympia for the next few years (assuming things don't improve).
Too much laymen exposure (like groggery said) along with less-than-standard-protocol at almost of all of his Mr. O winnings, at the expense of the general population favorite: Kai
In 2011, Jay and Phil were the only ones who got looked at, despite Kai looking better than Jay or at least deserving a comparison
In 2012, It was CLOSE. Kai had Phil beat in many people's minds, especially during the pre-judging. Got straight 1sts, along with the line-stepping/attitude thing that got blown out of proportion (insert classic roro pic)
in 2013, the Mr. O wasnt even compared in pre-judging!!! what?!?!! not even ronnie was that dominant, even though he would pretty much win the moment he walked out.
Then there is the fact that his negative behavior gets a lot more attention than his positive behavior along with that showing in Generation Iron. I could see Phil having a rough time with "fans" in the next year

Phil was the clear winner. No conspiracy theories necessary. Again, it was close last year, not this year. Kai has the *potential* to win, which is what makes things so frustrating for his fans. We all know that if he pushes conditioning and improves just a few weak points, he has what it takes to win. He already outmasses Phil. He doesn't need more size; he's just gotta work on polish and quality now.
Combination of Phil fighting fire with fire on the internet with the trolls (which people hate for some reason - whereas I personally love that he does it), and Jay Cutler being bodybuilding's marketing genius in terms of promoting himself and the sport and branding himself (clothing, DVD's, did some work in real estate, etc). Kai is just so loveable and humble, like you said, plus he's the underdog (which people love routing for). That's my take on it anyways. And despite what people on this forum may claim, I think Kai's background actually makes him *more* popular because of all the stuff he's overcome. Phil has overcome stuff, too, but Kai's had all sorts of vids about where he came from and stuff like that as well as being one of the sport's most interesting characters.

No offense to phil because you cant help but respect what these guys put themselves through but the phil "era" will go down as one of the worst era's in the sport.

Phil doesn't get respect because of the RAZOR THIN MARGINS he keeps winning with. Outside of his 2011 Olympia win (which also can be said he won because of the injury to Cutler), he has not been very dominant.
2012, most feel Kai won.
2013, Phil won fair and square, but only because Kai missed on his conditioning. If Kai had nailed his conditioning, he would have won.
People want dominant champions and not those who sneak by the skin of their teeth.
That said, Phil deserves respect as a competitor.
P.S. Heath's personality also doesn't help his case.

If Ramy had nailed his conditioning, he would've won...
I think the problem is that Kai's fans seem to direct their disappointment with Kai's conditioning as anger towards the winner of the show. I'm a Kai fan, and I wasn't upset that Phil won (I'm a fan of both guys). I was simply disappointed with Kai's showing. We all know he has what it takes to win. So does Big Ramy for that matter. These guys just need to nail it on game day, but they haven't done that yet (well, Kai has but that was the 2009 Arnold as well 2012 Olympia).
This year was not razor thin. People should stop painting it as if it was.
