Thank you AEN for allowing me to test another one of your products!
This log will include the usage of AEN's new version of PreSurge, as well as plenty of heavy s*** being lifted.
A bit of background info...
I've been competing in Strongman competitions for 6 or 7 years now. Towards the end of last season I was forced to sit on the sidelines due to an injury. following that, life began to get in the way (first house, no longer have a garage, etc). I'm done making excuses now. I've been back at it steadily for about 2 months now and am on track for this competitive season. I'm hoping the new PreSurge will assist my workouts to help me get back to competing as soon as possible.
I'm currently sitting at 6', and about 280lbs. In my time off I was as low as 268, and last season I was as high as 305-310. I don't plan on getting quite that heavy again as it was starting to affect my day to day life,
First two workouts are done! slightly late update, but here we go!
4.17.2013
Deadlift - 495X1, 545X1, 585X1, 605X2 - first heavy deadlift of the year. Best in previous years is 635X1 and 610X3, so I think I'm on track to smash these this year!
Squat (no belt) - 315X5, 365X5, 405X8
GM - 135X10, 155X10, 185X15
4.18.2013
Bench Press - worked up to 385X1, 315X5, 315X6 - wanted to see where I was here...only 10lbs off my previous best
2" DB row - 105X8ea, 115X8ea, 115X8ea
dips - BWX10, 10, 10
Pullups - BWX5, 5
Chinups - BWX5, 5
not too much volume on the pressing tonight as I plan to hit overhead pressing of some description on Saturday.
Thoughts on PreSurge so far
I started off with one scoop prior to each workout. I was doubtful that this would be enough as I have always had a very high tolerance to stimulants. I was, however, pleasantly surprised. This stuff didn't have me buzzing, but my focus was definitely intensified. I would like to see a bit more in the energy department, but that could potentially be fixed by using a higher dosage. Although I would like to try using a higher dosage on my event training day tomorrow, I don't think it will become a regular thing. 1 scoop is pretty darn good, and still allows me to sleep at night.
If the weather cooperates tomorrow, I plan on hitting stones, car deadlift, farmer's walk, and log press.

4.20.2013
Log Press - 235X3, 255X3, 275X4 - press is feeling strong, just need to get explosive again
Stones - from ground lifted as high as possible...a bunch of reps with the 330
Too freaking cold...called it a day
4.21.2013
tire flip (855lbs) - a bunch of singles, followed by a set of 10 (first 8 one-motioned)
Car deadlift - 3 holes showing X 3, 1 hole X 3, no holes+90lbs in trunk X 5, 5 - after the 5th rep of the second set, I felt and heard two pops on either side of my mid back...didn't feel very nice.
Farmer's (big handles) - 250/hand X 100' (turn at half), 2 runs
my back started feeling tight right after I put the car down, and continued to seize up for the rest of the night. It's feeling a lot better today, so I'll play things by ear for now. definitely had me worried for a short while though.

4.22.2013
Sumo Deadlift (no belt, stop each rep) - 405X3, 475X3, 475X5
Deficit Deadlift (on 3" platform, no belt, stop each rep) - 315X8, 385X6, 315X10
Posterior chain is fried, letting it heal for a few days. my mid back still feels tight, but didn't seem to be effected by deadlifting...weird
As for PreSurge...I took 1 3/4 scoops before both event days. and 1 1/4 scoop before deadlifting tonight. Getting close to 2 scoops is definitely a much different feeling than 1 scoop. My focus is intense, and the energy I get is very clean. no jitters, no bouncing off the walls...just clean, focused energy. I also have yet to experience a crash, and have up to this point had no trouble sleeping at night, even when taken at 5:30pm, and in bed by 10:30-11:00pm.

4.24.2013
Strict axle press (clean once) - 155X3, 175X3, 195X3, 215X3, 235X3 - first time doing standing military this year...I'm not too disappointed here
Floor Press - 225X5, 275X5, 315X5, 315X5
pullups - BW X 5 sets of 5
dips - BW X 15, BW X 15
chin-ups - BW X 5, BW X 5
I was in the freaking zone today! Would have kept going, but had dinner to make and my wife was getting hungry...priorities! Looking forward to events this weekend. With my back healing as quickly as it seems to be, I should be ready to SMASH IT!

Sorry for the late delay here!
4.28.2013
axle clean and press (clean once) - 195X3, 245X2, 265X2, 285X2, 305X0, 305X0 - thought this would be a gimme...out of practice on this event and i'm wasting too much energy on the clean...gotta get the technique back
farmer's - 270's X 80', 80' (turns at half)
started to rain...couldn't get much else done in the backyard unfortunately. It's days like this that I REALLY miss having a garage...hopefully should have mine built this year!
4.29.2013
Decided to finally try out 2 scoops today since I was going for a Deadlift PR. Focus was getting intense leading up to my workout...definitely a whole different animal than 1 scoop!
Deadlift - singles up to 615X3 - first PR of the year. Very happy with this! deadlift has been the slowest for me to progress in for years now. My training seems to be coming around for this though, and I'm hoping to smash some BIG numbers this year!
squats - 365X5, 405X5, 435X5
SLDL - 225X8, 255X8, 275X10

Thank you! I still have a way to go though!
5.02.2013
push-press - 225X3, 245X2, 275X2, 295X2, 315X2, 335X1
1-arm DB row - 130X8each, 8ea, 10ea
Bench Press - 275X5, 295X5, 315X5
pullups - BW X 3X5
various extensions, curls, laterals.
My push-press is coming back! still not as explosive as I used to be, but it feels like it's coming back pretty quick. Maybe I'll finally hit 4 plates overhead this year? Not a top priority, but might be fun.
I took two scoops of PreSurge preworkout again...felt like a freaking machine! Im not sure if ill be staying at 2 scoops for every workout, but it is definitely tempting. presurge is definitely helping my progress though. heck...with workouts that feel this good, its hard not to improve!

5.04.2013
Log press(clean once) - 235X3, 265X3, 295X3, 255X5
Farmer's Walk (turn at half) - 280/hand X 120', 280'hand X 120'
Out of time, want to hit at least stones and tire tomorrow or Monday...Might be doing a competition on short notice next weekend. Not looking to do incredibly well, just want to break the ice for the year.

5.07.2013
Stones - 285X3
tire Flip (855lbs) - a couple singles followed by 2 sets of 5, all one-motioned.
I'm doing my first competition of the year this Sunday! A little last minute, but should be fun to shake out the cobwebs. Went easy today for that reason. Probably one more light workout before now and then.
I've also just had an assessment done with a chiropractor including x-rays and a few scans. turns out I have scoliosis (news to me!) and a reverse curvature of the neck, as well as some compression between my (L5 and S1 I think?) That would explain some of my issues! Kind of sucks to find out, but hopefully I can start correcting these issues and still continue to make progress!Last edited by beast69; 05-07-2013 at 07:25 PM.

Barrie Strongman 2013
Going in to this competition, my goals were mostly to see where I was at in terms of my training and recovery. After taking 6-7 months off over the colder months, I've been trying to progress as quickly as possible while not pushing hard enough to re-injure myself. I've also been itching to get back to competing, so this was a good, close competition for me. The venue was also indoors, so we didn't have to endure the snow and gusting winds like some years!
Farmer's Walk - 300lbs/hand - ~60' (?), drop turn at half - 25.83s - 5th place
This is an event that has been poor for me for some time now, but I intend on changing that. Grip felt solid down the first stretch. hit the drop turn fairly quickly and started back. My grip failed about halfway back, but with two more quick picks I crossed the line. This event definitely needs improvement, but now I know where it stands.
850lb tire flip - 8 flips for time - 36.9s - 4th place
This event ended up being all about speed. Nice, easy flips even with the smooth surface.
18" deadlift max. - 730lbs - 4-way tie for 2nd place
There was no flex in the bar on this event, which made it feel much different than Andy's apparatus (lots of flex in his bar!). Even so, 640, 680, and 730 felt like they flew off the ground. I figured 780 would be easy, but it stalled just off the ground. I'm not sure if I was out of position or simply wasn't strong enough...either way I'm pretty happy with this event as the most I've hit so far this year is somewhere around 600...not too shabby!
285 log press for reps - 3 reps - tie for 4th
This is one event that never goes as well for me in competition as it does in training, and it's really starting to piss me off! First rep flew up. second rep, I tried to jerk it and completely messed up the rep. after that, I hit 2 more reps that felt much harder than they should have, then I was done.
I need to re-evaluate my training on this one. For starters, I think hitting higher rep sets and more lockout work will offer at least some help. I also need to find one technique for log press and stick to it. When I hit a groove with the push jerk I can smash some serious weight on this one (for me, at least), but it usually ends up failing me at some point and leaves me with failed reps, and I end up reverting back to push-pressing it for a while.
Atlas Stones up to 365lbs - 24.61s - 4th place
Stone training has been pretty crappy this year, and so I wasn't sure what to expect here. Once the whistle blew, the stones started flying up. I definitely spent too much time being careful on these and lost a ton of time. On a positive note though, 365 is the heaviest stone I've loaded this year and helped me regain some confidence in this event. Time to start smashing my big 385 stone again!
Came in 4th overall, and I'm happy with my performance. Obviously I would have liked to have placed better, but I'm getting a better idea of where my focus should lie this year. Time to turn things up a notch!
More Presurge specific updates soon!

Thank you! never thought i'd see the day when I thought 300/hand was "weak", but here we are . Not to make you feel bad, but my wife competed at this same competition and hit 160/hand on farmer's. It was a HUGE 30lbs/hand PR for her too! Very proud of her, so I had to brag a bit!
Thanks. good to see you stopping in!
Haha. I sometimes forget how long it's actually been since " the old days". Back when I thought i'd never compete outside of the lightweight division. The bar has definitely been set higher now! And as always, good to see you stopping in.
And as a side note, I've been enjoying Presurge so much that I went ahead and ordered 3 more tubs (one of each flavour). Should keep me buzzing for a while!

I applaud you man, you've made tremendous progress since those first video's you made for us when you were logging IntraXCell back in 2006'sh. I believe you were in our first round of loggers, when we had no idea what the forum was about. You and few others in that group, threw down some amazing logs and IntraXCell took off not long after. I remember your early farmers walk well.
Good stuff on the presurge, thank you. Honestly, the feedback so far has been nothing like I've seen for any other pre-workout right out of the gate. We're very optimistic for its growing success as word continues to spread around the forum and outward.Who we are and what we stand for as a company:http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/supplement-company-of-the-month-athletic-edge.html?searchterm=athletic
