atari - very briefly but it broke, i barely remember it, was too young
NES - had like 30+ games
SNES - had like 30+ games
PS1 - got that new and a lot of games.
Then weird gap where I was off to college and mainly PC game'd. Had a dreamcast that could read burned discs for a while. Had some random consoles i bought used for cheap and sold off after I got bored. Gamecube, n64, ps2 briefly but really only played MGS-3 and boxing. Also xbox-1 that i used for emulators and Fable.
got back into full time consoles with:
PS3
PS4

I was a Genesis kid growing up, my parents got Sega Channel for it pretty early on as opposed to getting games and it was probably the coolest thing ever as a kid growing up in the 90's, what as essentially video game streaming before we even had broadband internet, heck before I even used dial-up internet.
My sister had a SNES and she only had one game for it, Super Mario World, which we played all the time, but I remember renting the odd SNES game on occasion. Still, Genesis is where it's at. I was definitely a Sega gamer growing up, although I was a big PS1 fan during the next gen (Saturn was a failure by the time I got one). PS1 was probably the best game console I ever owned, at least when it comes to how much I enjoyed it. There was just something about the games they had back then, that first generation 3D/CD experience for me, revolutionary stuff.

I do recall that my father had an old Atari collecting dust in the garage. Really a tossup as to whether it even worked half the time. That was in the early 90s. Later on I would have liked to have either a Genesis or a SNES, but apparently both were too expensive so my parents bought a Sega Nomad (does anyone remember this one) and then the next Christmas a Gameboy. A couple years later they surprised us with an N64 for Christmas 97. First time playing Turok was mindblowing.
Should also point out that we always had a PC in the house. Mainly played Doom, Quake, Simcity 2000, and a forgotten shooter called RAPTOR. My father was big into real-time strategy games like Lords of the Realm and Total Annihilation but those were too boring for me as a kid.

I remember reading bout sega channel. I never had a sega really. I had a Sega nomad i got for $50 when they discontinued it at toys r us. Got a few games for it but wasnt my main system.
The kid across the street from me got a Genesis when I still had NES, completely mogged me. I would go over there and play streets of rage with him and his mom would bring us cool aide.
my best friend and myself had SNES though. Then next gen I went PS1 but he had golden eye and we would get the neighbor kids to come over and play 4 way death match that was the goat.

I had a sega nomad, bought it when it was on discount for only 50 bucks. I never had a gameboy which was really better because nomad drained batteries, mostly played it plugged in.
For NES and SNES, we got them from the classified newspaper section, used lots people were selling with like 30 games or something for relatively cheap.
yeah first time I got a 486 I played a lot of doom, the doom clones (there were a million of them) and then the first warcraft game.

n64 (would have bought ps1, but cousin lived across the street had one so we just shared)
gameboy color
gamecube
ps2
(skipped first xbox, same reasons with cousin across the street)
nintendo ds (the original with crappy build quality, then some of the other builds)

the funniest times were back in the ps2 days. I got a hard drive and the hack dvd called HD Loader, and you plug the hard drive into your PC and download games online or rip them straight from the dvd via rental or from a friend and load it directly to the hard drive, you then plug it back into the ps2 and bam you have instant loading games..Last edited by rocketfish; 09-25-2021 at 01:21 PM.

Yeah I sort of missed that whole NES era, I was a 90's kid through and through, by the time I was old enough to pay attention to video games 16-bit was all the rage, I never even knew anyone who had an NES or even played NES games until I got much older. Heck I always thought the Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros 3 was how the game was always supposed to look because that is how I was introduced to it.
Sega channel was just amazing though, it's hard for anyone to fathom how incredible it was to have a service like that back then, and I remember how bummed out I was when they discontinued it, but luckily that was shortly before my parents got me a PS1. My game console history growing up was this:
1. Genesis
2. Game Boy Pocket
3. PS1
4. GBC
5. N64
6. Dreamcast
7. NGPC
8. Gamecube
9. GBA
10. PS2
11. Xbox
12. DS
13. PSP
14. Xbox 360
15. PS3
16. 3DS
After that I became an adult and collected a ton of chit, I got pretty much every noteworthy system from the 90's - 00's, even oddities like the Jaguar, 3DO, and Gamecom.Last edited by JayJ350; 09-25-2021 at 03:27 PM.

I think this list should cover it historically:
NES
SNES
Genesis
Gameboy
Gameboy Pocket
Game Gear
PS1
N64
PS2
XBOX
Gamecube
XBOX 360
Gameboy Advance (the flip one)
PS3
Wii
XBOX One
PS4
Switch
XBOX Series X
PS5 (Soon)
I'd say N64/Xbox Era were my favorite era for LAN/Local gaming by far. Between Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Smash Bros, Mario Party/sports on the N64 and then Halo, Brute Force, KOTOR, and the NFL2K series on the Xbox those local gaming days were phenomenal.
For Overall gaming the PS2 era had to be my favorite era simply for the fact of that was where my Online Gaming cherry was popped with the SOCOM series and there was no looking back from SOCOM 1 all the way through Combined Assault. I've never hit that level if enjoyment again in online gaming. There were a few games that came close but nothing touched SOCOM 2 days.***Mariah Carey is my 10/10 Crew***

In date order
Atari ST (family owned but I gamed on it)
Sega Mega Drive
PC (family owned but I gamed on it)
Playstation
PS2
Xbox360
Xbox One (current system)
So I had fewer systems than many of you guys, but just had them for longer. I've only had 4 systems in the past 20 years."Honor is something that all men are born with. It cannot be taken from you nor can it be granted. It must only not be lost."

I THINK the order for me was...
Nintendo 64 -> PS1 -> Game Cube -> Gameboy Advanced -> PS2 -> Gameboy SP -> Nintendo DS -> Xbox 360 -> Crappy Gaming PC -> Nintendo Switch -> Xbox One X -> PS4 Pro -> Better Gaming PC (see sig) -> PS5.
There was a PSP in the mix somewhere but I think my family broke the joysticks the first month so I kinda don't count it lol. Also I was too young to really have done anything with a N64 except Super Mario 64, never really played any other games much.
Now a days I just play PC or PS5. Very rarely the Switch. No intentions to get a Series X since Windows 10/11 can run everything. Don't care about the new Switch LED or whatever.i7-14700k

I remember going back to Romania after having played NES for a while and my grandma and grandpa had an Atari (which seemed like garbage) and they also had a ghetto version of Cartoon Network.
My dad also before that had a Commodore 64 that was like modded or something and I remember playing a game that was similar derivative to Donkey Kong on it.
I also had a used Super Nintendo that had a huge hole in its face plate but still worked lol I think my dad tried to save like 75 bucks but the child me always felt super uncomfortable about it when friends would visit me
