    Limited excersize

Just curious if anyone has experience losing weight (50+lbs) when reducing calories and only lifting 2 days a week.
I can only get to the gym on weekends.

Before I got serious about weights I lost about 50 just by eating better and walking (yes I'm a reformed cardio bunny). So I'm sure you can lose weight at 2 days a week. It really just depends on what your goals are. Do u just want to lose weight or do you want to lose fat and gain muscle. There are also body weight exercises you can do at home if you have time at home. Have you thought about a home gym?

You could always add a body weight session 1-2 weekdays if you wanted to. Push ups, bench dips, pull ups. As well as a number of other home options. A barbell and some weights can be had on Craigslist for next to nothing, especially the standard sized ones. There are also quite a few low to no equipment workouts on this site, YouTube, and others.

I had worse results when I lifted less while losing over 50 pounds. It can certainly be done, but muscle retention is the issue most will bring up. Good luck whatever you chose.

Anyone can lose weight sitting on the couch. All it takes is less calories being taken in than are being burned. The body will cannibalize it's fat stores when it realizes it's not taking in enough nutrients for normal operation.

As for the limited exercise? Just temper your expectations as far as muscle gain goes. Limited effort = limited results. But you'd be surprised how much time you can find in your busy schedule for things that are really important to you.

    ^^ This.

For fat loss, diet is everything.
Exercise helps but it's a distant second to nutrition.

I built up a lot of muscle from 2008 - 2010 when I got in shape and lost 60 lbs lifting heavy. Fell out of the habits and got fat again. I feel like the muscle is still there under all this fat but strength obviously isn't. It's embarrassing at the gym now. I can barely curl 20 lb DB. Hopefully I can diet down and my composition will be ok.

Good idea on doing a home excersize. That may be the ticket to get an extra workout in.
