Does this actually uniquely contribute to obesity or diabetes (any more than sugar )?

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

I am not a fan of oprah, but I am a fan of dr. oz and he had a section on HFCS and dieting.

In one of the links, I read a good point, that a 64 oz. Mega Big Gulp has 800 calories and it's the extra calories of what is essentially sugar water that is the problem not the HFCS.
HFCS is commonly used in regular soda, which a lot of people still drink, and that's a lot of extra calories they would not have been consuming otherwise.

I sure hope it's not bad, because it's one of the main ingredients in every single product in my kitchen from my ketchup to my icecream.
You know... the problem may be with over consumption and not HFCS, but they sure make it easy to over consume when it's in everything.
Can anyone knowledgeable about this sort of thing tell me if HFCS is used more generously than regular sugar because it's cheaper? That's the only way I can see the "it makes America fat" argument work.
