You have to change your perspective. You view it as multiplying 1 orange by 0, but with if you multiply 0 oranges by 1. You would still have 0 oranges in that case. Hence why the answer is 0.

1x0 is the same as one zero times.

So if you have one orange, and count it one time, you have counted one orange.

If you have one orange and you count it zero times, you have counted zero oranges.
