State Attorney General Letitia James suggested she’s a strong booster of New York’s controversial no-cash bail law and said legislators should be “resisting the urge to overreact to spikes in crime” — by tightening the law without credible data.
“We must follow the data and really look at it from an analytical perspective. That means ensuring we are resisting the urge to overreact to spikes in crime that have occurred during this pandemic, without dismissing them outright,” James said.
James said she supports the premise behind the law, which eliminates cash bail for most defendants accused of misdemeanor and non-violent felony crimes. The laws bars the accused from being jailed pending trial simply because they couldn’t post bail.
The no-cash bail law has stirred controversy since it was approved by the Democratic-run legislature and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2019.
Cuomo and lawmakers tweaked the law in April of 2020, adding a number of new crimes to be re-eligible for bail — including burglary in the second degree, promoting child pornography, and vehicular manslaughter, mostly associated with drunk-driving fatalities.
Hate crimes and more gun offenses are also bailable offenses.
Last June, James blamed a surge in shootings on gun trafficking in other parts of the country and downplayed the impact of bail reform.

"without credible data"
so the data is there but the sjws, activist courts and Soros DAs and lib media/politicians don't care or believe in reality so it's not credible?
These monsters are simping for criminals and just want everyone to pretend everything is fine, and if it's not fine then blame white supremacy or guns for black kids slaughtering each other every day at 3AM

Innocent until proven guilty.
The purpose of bail is to secure the accused will show up to their court date.
If the accused is expected to show up to court, then they should not have a bail.
If the accused is expected to skip their court dates, then they should have a bail.
If the accused is a danger to society (violent crime, priors, threats etc. ) then they should be held without bail.Life is easy when you take personal responsibility

Here's the problem; when Cuomo came out with this idiotic bail reform, nobody bothered to take a baseline data of the crime levels. Whether this was done deliberately or just forgotten, no one knows.
source: https://nypost.com/2022/03/31/lawmak...-bail-reforms/
So Democrats who support bail reform are asking for data because they know there is nothing to compare it to and so legally, there's no case to make or action to take.*Simplicity is the key to life*

The idea that just because you have money you get out on bail vs someone without money is ridiculous. The problem is the Dems in their rush to correct it didn't think it through and allowed this mess to happen. Enough time has gone by to figure out the solutions and fix it, there's no excuse for this still being a problem. It's 100% on Dems in NY.

I can't easily multiquote but I think we can all agree:
If they are letting out violent criminals with history or violent charges, then something is wrong. Those criminals should be held without bail and any politician or official arguing otherwise should be replaced from that role.Life is easy when you take personal responsibility
