So i moved to DC and they just did a best of steak sandwich list here and the answer is yes...... as a philly steak snob.
The best place was at a butcher shop that makes sandwiches so i bought one Monday and it tasted like they shaved the meat and cooked it for me.
The best meat texture i have ever had in a sandwich by far! There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

you can certainly get good steaks from places like D'Alessandros, Tony Luke's and Jim's, but some of the best steaks are in areas that I wouldn't send you

Kensington is far from the worst neighborhood in Philly. A lot of Kensington is being redeveloped and gentrified. Even the tent city around the drug zombie area around K&A was cleared out by the new Mayor last week. There's money to be made in Kensington with the easy access to the El and the river and the development in the surrounding areas in Fishtown and Northern Liberties and the proximity to Temple.

Forget cheese steak.
Let me aware you about DiNic’s roast pork with sharp provolone and broccoli-rabe.

This is what folks say about the chopped cheese here in NYC, and that you should only get it in a place with a C (or worse) health department rating.
Not sure that's true.
Some folks mentioned steak sandwiches, and to me a great one of those is a AAA prime (ribeye) cooked with specific attention to caramelizing the fat, then sliced, topped with caramelized onions. That's a 'steak sandwich'. I can eat a chopped cheese here and there but quality is pretty chitty as it's cutting up an f'n burger patty srs.
