Our Universities are no longer places to envy it seems. One problem, College has become over priced, largely due to the growth of college administration staff. Some Universities have administrations nearly as large as their student enrollment. More is spent on administration staffing then on teaching.
One Culprit in Rising College Costs: Administrative Expenses
Colleges and universities are spending more on administration and less on instruction. Here's what that means for students.

You just have to be careful and make sure you don't make a stupid decision. You have to know what you're going to apply college to later, otherwise it's a waste of time and money. Frankly, it should be graduate high school, enter the work force for 3-5 years and figure out what you want, then go to college and get the education to get the job you want, not enter college right after and not have any idea what you want to do when you're 25.
And yes, if you're a good parent you will guide your kids towards the right path, even if it changes - but you'll make sure they get the piece of paper that can open doors for them later in life. It's also absolutely ridiculous that employers consider a degree a higher qualification than 5 years of work experience.

why is there no nuance with you guys?!
creating a culture where you are an idiot if you do not go to uni but a management or gender studies degree makes you smart is retarded and was done purely because millenials and younger had to enter the working life later due to boomers not retiring
I did Comp Sci BSc but honestly unless you are Comp Sci academia (which can actually be absorbed under pure maths) you can simply not go to uni and just be trained as a trainee in the corporate world - a degree is extremely unnecessary
a word where only top 10% people go to uni - mostly to continue producing patents/IP in STEM + vocational degrees that simply required structured training (healthcare etc) is what is needed
majority of humanities become fully decommissioned
not to mention that now universities offer unnecessary stuff in the realm of Computer Science - you have CS but now BSc Data Science, IT management -> behaving like a consumer oriented business selling the same re-packaged thing
I fully believe that someone who is, say, currently working as an accounting/corporate finance with an econs/accounting/finance degree could have absolutely ended up in the same place without university, but they can't do that if they wanted to
arguments about learning about the world and the experience are nullified given that the working + job hunting world is a lot more complex and even through simple pattern matching you learn a lot more
all whilst doing stuff you will do at some point anyway - paying rent/mortgage, bills...
if you are 18 you should have the option to go do an optimised healthcare degree, go discover **** in academia, go start as a clerk in JP Morgan (like boomers used to btw), or just become a tradesman
if you disagree, I hope your kids end up becoming trannies protesting for Palestine in their international studies degree
honestly, you failed parents, make sure you modify the nurture variable because the nature was not kind
thank youLast edited by atgbrahsrs; 05-17-2024 at 04:33 AM.

Depends on the degree/classes you take.
Most of my classes were computer science and information systems. Never had a professor or other student in class start pushing woke chit in class, though I’m sure a bunch were raging lefties.
Also did all of the bs classes at a community college, and the professors and students there seemed a lot less idealistic than the demographics at larger schools.
But I was also in college from 2010-2015, which was pre-Blumpf so the political environment in academia wasn’t as unhinged
It just all depends on where you go and what classes/major you take for the most partLast edited by John L; 05-17-2024 at 04:55 AM.

I find it difficult to think that parents nowadays are seeing everything happening on college campuses and then pushing their children to attend for stupid degrees.
There is a great disconnect there. Do these parents not see what everyone else is seeing? They act like its the 50's and their kids will get a degree and get hired on at some big firm right away and be set for life. Its like some idiotic dream that never was reality in the first place.
Useless degrees have always been useless and even more so nowadays.
Its like these people willfully ignore the internet and reality. They cant take 5 minutes and look up the roi in some idiotic degree?"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

I thought it was worth the money, even though I wasted a lot by going to an out of state school and not taking classes srsly lol. even if my job didn't require a degree, it was worth the experience, instead of worrying about bills or deadlines at work, my biggest worries were the gym, what alcohol to buy, and which sloots are gonna come to our next party lol
Its still valuable, look at the military, you can be an officer flying planes with an art degree having old dudes with kids your age and 20+ years of experience saluting you and calling you sir...
went to college in the PNW and didn't really see any of the crying liberal meme chit, but I was a bro so I tried to hang out with bro's not boners

Careful now. The last time you tried to contrast me you had a breakdown and spammed gay porn repeatedly until you were banned.
Someone as low class as you, with your mental problems, has no real say on the matter of 'education'. Because you're a peasant. So you don't "know what it's like" to go to a top tier school, nor the opportunities that can afford you with precisely because you're taught a valuable way of thinking.
He utterly lacks self-awareness. His threads are a coping mechanism, all variations on a "I noped out of life and married a woman with a kid and we live off the alimony her ex pays her".
Good thing he hasn't contaminated the gene pool.

College is like buying an airplane ticket, very few people pay the same price
Like what a doctor charges a patient who doesn't have insurance. They get what they can and it's always more.
IMO the govt has f-ed over the consumer by writing blank checks to 18 year olds. They will loan out everything, a college can keep increasing fees and tuition.
Govt has to stop handing out blank checks and colleges will keep prices stable.
