    I do farmers Deadlifts from time to time, which harder than trap bar because the plates are front and back. I hit 530 on them about a year ago. My best ever is 600 back in my 20s.

    We have a trap bar at my gym but the handles are 2.5 inches which limits the grip.

    I recently tried to use straps and I’m not good with them from the floor, I need that grip connection to get my horsepower. I tried to use straps once or twice on 405 behind the back dead’s and the lift became twice as hard. The little bit of slack I feel from the slack screws up my power. I hate straps I’d rather do hook grip, as there is no slack at all, but I can’t do hook grip with a 2.5 inch handle.

    I’m working on a farmers/squat variation right now though.

    Edit: I'm patiently waiting for you to post a 500# conventional deadlift vid. You got 530# on the plates, you've been working hard on the hacks, there's a 500 DL out there somewhere with your name on it. Won't be long until you find it.

    Nice -- I don't like straps either and have always used hook grip. Just add a bit of chalk to the top of my thumb and it never slips.

    Well, patience is needed. I’m doing what I’m doing for the little folks.

    My long time training partner is 6’1” and was like 250 in HS. He dead lifted 500 during our first few years lifting, very early 20s. Very natural for him and his size. He has never done 600 though. He got 585 many years later.

    So for our god given genes his 600 is like my 500.

    I need to be doing around 600 in this lift before I even attempt 500. Every time I go for a max dead my glute/back hurts for a long time, been that way for 20+ years lifting.

    I need MORE posterior work.
