Cool 2014 I AM JUGGERNAUT CHALLENGE - Tara Alexandra

Hello everyone! My name is Tara Goncalves. I am 22 years old and will be a graduatiing senior from Holy Family University in Philadelphia this spring. For my journey I want to ultimately find a way to compete in a bikini competition while also figuring out my life after college. I am currently nervous for my future, unsure, and full of anxiety. Exercise has helped me cope with the stress of graduation. In a perfect world I'd get paid to work out right? Lol.

A little more background on me: At the age of 13 I was diagnosed with anorexia. I suffered from this disease for months. At my lowest point I was 78 pounds. What hurt the most was the comments I received from my peers and the tears in my mom's eyes. I was at an extremely unhappy, dark place; however, when I viewed myself in the mirror my body was still far from "perfect". My relationship with food has never been the same since. I have since overcome this disease but I do feel the remnants of it. I fight hard everyday to not listen to the voices inside my head. Don't get me wrong, I am at a way better place now than ever before. I am happy. I have read about nutrition and changed my eating habits to a "cleaner" lifestyle and have made huge improvements in my physique. Food is fuel and nourishment and all my muscles love it .

I was diagnosed with Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome at a very young age. Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome is a heart condition in which there is an abnormal extra electrical pathway of the heart. The condition can lead to episodes of rapid heart rate. I suffered from this from many years and was on medication as a little girl to control the occurrence of the rapid heart beat. It was an extremely nauseating feeling that would consume my whole body for hours, even when I was in school. Eventually my body became immune to the dosages of medication so I underwent a procedure to correct this. Ever since I have been free from the awful symptoms! Because of this disorder I was advised not to partake in physical activity. I wasn't athletic so in high school I decided to change this and tried out for my school's field hockey team. We weren't the best but I began to fall in love with running. My group of friends were also avid runners. So for 4 years I was always waking up, going on my little jobs, and doing some sort of ab work after. I started weight training when I realized my body was lacking any serious curves. My boyfriend at the time showed me a few leg workouts at the gym and ever since then I became in awe with the bodybuilding world and will never look back! I did suffer from a period of too much cardio (doing 45 minute runs after weight training) and lost almost 10 lbs in 2 months. So I spent last year recovering from my crazy workouts. Now I have found a healthy balance between food, weights, and cardio.

So ultimately my goal is to become a bikini competitor, my only problem is the lack of money I have to support myself with this goal and where to even begin! I am so lost. This is another thing I hope to resolve during this 90 day challenge.
Currently my gym goals are a bit varied. I want to look good and yet still train for strength. My highest squat is 155 for 3 and I recently pulled a 225 deadlift. I am looking to gain a bit more muscle and improve my workouts. Maybe ultimately try to reach a 185 squat! I believe I weigh 119 lbs, I tend to stay away from the scale.
My current stack includes Infinite Labs Women's Multi and Juggernaut HP Crimson Punch (SOOOO GOOD!!!) I will ultimately add in more products throughout this journey.

So excited to start and figure out what I can accomplish these next few months.

Wow, you should be so proud of evreything you have overcome! I am originally from the Philly area. Do you know Betsy Lane? She was a former I am Juggernaut winner and also went to Holy Family. I met her at the gym I would go to, No Bull Training (best gym ever) and has been an amazing mentor. She is knowledgable about......basically everything lol and could also be helpful in your journey towards becoming a bikini competitor.

I Am Juggernaut 2014 Helpful Logging Hints!
Hey Juggernauts, It would seem that the challenge is OFFICIALLY under way! Lot’s of logs and lots of awesome people. Valerie Bishop (RussianLove18) and myself, Ashley Lauing (asheid) have been reading and posting to many logs and noticed that people could use a little help here and there! Because we have so many veterans yet so many exciting new faces, we wanted to give you all a few helpful hints along the way! More are posted every day on our logs! Here’s just a couple of things to get you started on your way to awesomeness!

    • Make sure your log title has “Juggernaut 2014” in it somewhere! Remember there are tons of logs from previous years and we’d hate to miss your thinking it was last year’s log!
    • Since a lot started creating our logs before Jan 1 remember that the contest didn’t officially start until Jan 1, make sure your “before” pics are on or after Jan 1 (also make sure you have the required pics 1 of you with your paper and one with the date close up on it!)
    • Make sure you strive for quality posts, a lot of people will only stop in once a day to check up on you, give them something worth reading!!!
    • Check the official rules regularly for helpful reminders on what you need to log about! Workouts, supplements (and their reviews!), diet etc. will all be important! WWW.IAMJUGGERNAUT.COM
    • Make sure your posts are all in line with the Juggernaut spirit! Be positive and uplifting to each other (and yourselves! Juggernauts are unstoppable, make sure you approach your day that way as well as your logs and remember that your log may be the only bright part of someone’s day today!)
    • The reps and IL athletes are ALL here to help you! If you are unsure, as someone, remember, we were all new to this challenge at one point! The reps have a log just click here --> The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and book mark it for use later!
    • If you’re not on our I Am Juggernaut ******** page you are missing out in a big big way! Contact Jordan Foster to get you into the group!
    • Make sure you subscribe into the logs you’re really interested in following! Trust me… this will save your sanity when you want to go looking for one of them!
    • If you go to your User CP you can add/edit your signature. We highly suggest you add your I Am Juggernaut experience link to your signature. It will make it impossible for people not to find you and your log! Believe me… We want to find your log!

If you are looking for tips on how to give your log a little color, add pics and youtube videos etc click here -->* 2014 I AM Juggernaut Challenge * Ashley Lauing (asheid) I’ve got lots posted and KennKnee added some great tips as well!
If you’re looking for advice on what to log head over to Valerie’s log --> 2014 juggernaut _russianlove18_ and check out her video she made! Lots of tips everywhere!

Tara glad to see you have joined. Sorry to hear about your past, you are on the right track now. I think you would be great for bikini. Take your time, and when you are able to take the stage, you will be physically and financially ready for it.

Congrats on your college accomplishments! I just got my masters! GO GIRL!!
