War Against The Machines: ErgoPharm AMP2 vs. EMISGOD

    Starting date: 03.29.08

    This is the machine:

    Circa: 03/29/07

    Poster: EMISGOD
    Height: 6'0"
    Weight: 211
Bodyfat %: 12.79 (Calculated using this page: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/drobson98.htm)
    Chest: 44
    Arms: 16
    Forearms: 12.5
    Thighs: 27
    Calves: 16

Note: All above figures and more information available in the machine's BodySpace.

The quest: Now that the "easy" fat loss seems to be largely over, I'm going to try to get into hyperdrive with training, to engage better cardiovascular performance as well as continue to cut.

    Training Protocol: See below.*

    Monday: Cardio
    Tuesday : Lifting
    Wednesday: Lifting
    Thursday: OFF
    Friday: Cardio
    Saturday: Lifting
    Sunday: Lifting

    * = This is a bit of a misnomer as I will very likely be doing some degree of Cardio daily. I don't know if that will start in this Log or not (probably not -- I only have 15 days of materials), but that will be coming...

    Diet Protocol: Restricted

    Total daily calories< or = 2200
    Total daily carbs < 150g
    Total daily protein > 200g
    Very limited saturated fats
    Very limited simple carbs

Supplement Protocol, in addition to the test products:

    GNC Vitamin C 500 Chewable
    Designer Supplements Vigor http://www.designersupps.com
    Olympian Labs Osteo-Plex http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/olabs/osteo.html
    GNC Vitamin D 700
    ErgoPharm ClearShot http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/ergo/clear.html
    NOW L-Glycine http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/now/gly.html
    Athletic Edge IntraXCell http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/ae/intra.html
    Athletic Edge IntrAbolic http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/ae/intrabolic.html
    Athletic Edge Steel Edge http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/ae/gro.html
Black Star Labs Whey Supremacy http://www.blackstarlabs.com
    Xtreme Formulations ICE http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/xf/ice.html
    AOR Multi Basics 3
    Olympian Labs Co-Q10 http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/olabs/cosoft.html
Designer Supplements Lean Extreme (2) http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/design/lean.html (2 or 3 more days)

The following elements may wind up showing up in this Log at some point:

    ErgoPharm GF-Pro V2 http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/ergo/gf.html
    VPX Power Rush: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/vp...powerrush.html

Note: All above information and more is available in the machine's BodySpace.

    About this Log:

No question I got really hammered by the recent bout of illness a little while ago. It hit right around the end of the Adrenalean Log and put me on the shelf for a good little bit. I'm back to full strength (or very close) once again and it's apparent that I need to get back on track as far as Cardio goes. Weight did an interesting thing in tumbling down to 208, but as soon as I resumed training, it went back to 211, where it has been holding pretty steadily since.

This is my 11th Product Log on bb.com. I'm still chasing single digit bf%, but some things have been set in motion and I will be there sooner (maybe much sooner) rather than later, so I'm not agonizing over it much. I may also need to cut out all thermos entirely in a month or two.

As to this specific product, it tested pretty well when I got a few samples. While somewhat reminiscent of MAN Scorch and the Primaforce RAGE/Scivation Dialene 4 products, none of those had the edge of AMP2 and none of them can be stepped on like AMP2 can. Like big brother regular AMP, knock back 4 tabs of these pre-workout and it works well as an energizer. Also, like big brother regular AMP, there is still a crash when this happens, though it is considerably less pronounced. I will not be using AMP2 in this role, as pre-workout energizer for this Log, but will be using it strictly as a fat burner. The one minor point of contention I have with it has nothing really to do with the product, but I've noticed that there are 90 tabs in a bottle. Running 6/day, which seemed to be the best level during my earlier testing, means that I have about 2 weeks (slightly extended because of how I dose on weekends) of Logging here. At $30 a throw for the bottle, it's hard for me to justify that kind of expenditure...nevertheless, early indications were that it looked like a powerful (if not the most powerful, at least in terms of stim thermos) entry into the field, so overall I'm excited about testing it.

Last words before the battle is engaged:

Those of you who follow my Logs know what to expect from me. Those who didn't can find out here:

Every Log is different, but I try to post daily. As I am trying to Log as much information as possible, I will continue posting dietary numbers also, to the extent possible. As always, I will mark the posts so readers can tell which is an actual Log post and which is grabassery. I will also re-measure everything at the end of the Log.

For the workout days, I will be posting the exercises and the weights used, excluding warm-up sets. I will just mention the exercise I used for warm-ups. I will also attempt to make commentary on the various methods (drop sets, super sets, et. al.) when I am using something beyond straight/static sets. Cardio will be the exercise used and a few other factors, some meaningful to me and more for my use, some for more general information.

Special thanks to the mighty Beejer, for both this Log and for being his pimp-ass self.

Finally and most importantly, as always, thanks to all of you for joining me on this adventure.

    Start Transmission

    Workout: Legs
    Exercises Used:

    BB Squats = 2 Warm-up sets
    Timed BB Squats = 1 Work set (2:00, 135X30)
Inverted Leg Press = 4 Work sets (450X6)
    Glute-Ham Raises = 4 Work sets (BWX8, +20X4, +10X5, BWX6)
Seated Calf Raises = 4 Work sets (225X10) supersetted with
Standing Calf Raises = 4 Work sets (255X10)

Quality Level: Outstanding. Once again, credit to sytennison for presenting this: http://www.t-nation.com/article/most..._leg_blast&cr=...

Having energy makes a huge difference. I really got caloric loading dialed in for this workout and geared almost everything this morning around this workout, specifically the Timed BB Squats. I also changed the Warm-Ups to nearly exactly what the dude in the article was doing, which was 6 - 8 (well, more like 8 - 12 reps) at super-slow pacing. That did somewhat better, but I might go back to my way for the first couple Warm-up sets and then throw in some 185s or something. On the other hand, this method today worked extremely well, so I am reluctant to screw with it until I get hung up. My ultimate goal is to hit 4:00 before I have to drop this experiment (probably in 3 - 4 weeks) due to a forthcoming change in overall activity level.

I felt like I could have made 2:30 today and my ceiling is probably at or approaching 3:00, but I decided not to press it because I was feeling that my Legs are still not back to full-strength. This view was reinforced by me almost pulling my Left Ham during the Glute-Ham Raises, but then was blown into little tiny pieces once the Calf Supersets came around. I really should have raised the weight on those, as they felt very easy to me.

I was debating doing Abs, but am still paranoid about the Chest workout, which is tomorrow and I want to be as ready for that as I can be, which means limiting (somewhat) overall wear and tear. This is one of the reasons I hate getting sick...when I finally do come back, I am tentative almost to the point of over-caution. One other minor note...for some reason, first my right hand, then both hands went numb during the BB Squats (Warm-up sets included). I am at a complete loss to explain this as it did not happen at all after that. It was only a minor distraction during the Timed Squats, but very odd...possibly I did not position the bar correctly on my Shoulders (reaching here, I know), since I was using the Power Rack as opposed to the Squat Rack and it was closing off nerves or something, but it was very strange.

    Diet: Numbers to come later.

Observations From The Deck: I think this will be an interesting Log, even if a short one. Both of the other two products this reminds me of (see first post) are very solid products that I enjoyed using quite a bit. I also liked the samples I got of this considerably and already have a favorable impression of it from then. The dosing that seems to work best seems to be 3/3 during weekdays and 0/3 during weekends (due to using ClearShot then), though that might be revised. 4 tabs, while nice from a pre-workout standpoint, is a bit much for thermogenic purposes, while 2 and 1 seem both to be too light. On the other hand, I probably could reduce the dosage for the first few days, as I will be running out the bottle of LX2 that I have, though that will only be 2 or 3 days tops. I might wind up changing the dosage to 3/2, still kind of up in the air on that, but probably not.

Auxiliary Intel: Today is also the first start of the new addition to the PWO formulation (though I will not be commenting on the make-up here (don't bother asking), just the effectiveness and status of development). Hopefully, I will be done with the alpha testing by the end of April.

I will also be shortly laying down a deposit on a Trek 7.3 FX bike (+ some accessories), which I should have next weekend (they have to order it in), though the weather is anything but cooperative at the moment, so riding it may be sporadic initially.

    End Transmission

Okay, that article is the worst wrote **** ever as it doesn't describe a god damn thing other than the homoerotic love for foreign dude's legs. The squats are just "normal" speed? I would like to see the recommended timing if it's not at "normal" speed.
And on the leg curls, you hold for 10-12 seconds on the contraction or just run a 6-8 rep set, rest for 10-12 seconds, then rep out till failure?

And on the leg curls, you hold for 10-12 seconds on the contraction or just run a 6-8 rep set, rest for 10-12 seconds, then rep out till failure?

I liked the concept, actually, of Timed BB Squats, which is the only thing I've taken. I don't like Leg Extensions or Lying Leg Curls much, so I just went with the Squat thing because it sounded like a fun experiment and I feel like I need something to pick up my Leg workouts, which I felt were somewhat uninspired. I normally just use Squats as a Warm-up, but when this came in, I kind of wondered how long I could do them for...since the guy went in 30 second increments (though he went 2X a week, which I will NOT be doing), I'm also going in 30 second increments to the point where I can't...

I don't know what "normal speed" means, either. I warmed up super-slow, instead of the near breakneck packing I usually use, but neither is normal for me during actual Work reps, in which I try to keep a very controlled pacing and form. On the other hand, 30 reps in 120 seconds is 4 seconds per rep, which is probably still somewhat fast...I will be the first person to tell you that I am by no means a Squat guru, so maybe we will have to find someone who is able to lend some insight...as it stands, I'm pretty pleased with the experiment and I can definitely say it's not as easy as it sounds...at least for me...

Well, I hate changing **** around on leg days, but I do have legs tomorrow so I may try this two minute thing as a warm up with only 135. We used to do speed box squats with bands on our shoulders as resistance for football and it was timed; numerous people puked numerous times, but I only ralphed once
Anyway, I don't know what to make of this, but this dude's max was also about 450 so 135 may be ineffective for some members of the board. But I have a hard time believing this dude has grown to 34 inches with just this ****; maybe with the help of some sauce and other, more proven types of training caused the basis for a majority of his size.

I know what you mean...but I thought my Leg workouts were stagnating a bit and this has jump-started them nicely...if nothing else, it makes for an excellent pre-exhaust...I don't know what to make of it, either. I also don't have any idea what my max is...the 34" number does seem somewhat hard to believe, unless he is genetically predisposed to build tree trunk Legs, in which case, any stimulation training in that area could possibly be effective...it is definitely an experiment for me, certainly not something I'm hanging my hat on...

    Workout: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpo...71&postcount=4

    Diet:
    Calories: ~2350
    Total carbs: 72g or ~12%
    Total fat: 66.5g or ~25.5%
    Total protein: 343g or ~58.5%
Score: 100% (5 of 5 goals) Total calories gets a pass today because I'm not convinced the calculator I used on the extremely rare New York steak cuts I had was altogether accurate. As the numbers indicate, everything was extremely clean today. I was also hungry for almost the entire day...

Observations From The Deck: I kept everything firing nearly all day long today, which resulted in a bit of carelessness on my part, which I will have to make sure I fix tomorrow as there is no real margin for errors on Sundays. Anything I screw up will impact the rest of the week, so I need to pay much closer attention to both the timing of the AMP2 as well as when I'm eating. I do think this Log is off to an excellent start, however, but then again, when I'm not sick, I think I really do have things dialed in well, particularly in terms of supplementation. Once the PWO thing is completely finished, it will be sort of the last piece and things will be probably as dialed in entirely as it is possible for them to get.

Auxiliary Intel: As much as I hate February, I love this part of March and the reason, of course, is March Madness. Even though my team (UK Wildcats) took a huge **** and bowed out in the first round, I still enjoy watching all the games. As the tournament goes on, there is a chance to see some stellar, excellent games and the rise of some stars. Mostly, though, it is a team effort, standout efforts aside, and I think that's the part of it I like best. I'd rather watch almost any NCAA men's basketball game than any pro game of any sport and if I ever get around to getting satellite or cable or whatever, I probably will get the NCAA ticket, so I can get more of the regular season games than I do now...

Gotta agree with you on NCAA basketball. It's much more fundamentally sound and team oriented than pro ball. I'm pissed off that Georgetown choked, but now I'm kinda rooting for Davidson; they actually look legit! And Curry is the truth!

Well, Memphis, in my mind, is looking unbeatable. I think it will be them (Texas is a formality) vs. UNC in the Finals, with Memphis probably taking that also. I'd like to see Davidson (who cooked Georgetown, the first team to sleep on them) beat Kansas, but that's going to be asking a lot. Before the Elite 8 started, I thought that UCLA and Memphis had the easiest games and UNC and Kansas the more challenging. Even if Davidson beats Kansas, I really don't see them beating UNC anymore than I see UCLA beating Memphis...

UNC, even with the mighty Hansbrough, can't beat Memphis, either...I thought Louisville was going to at least make it close, but Pitino's insistence on constantly running the press wears his players down too much around this time...it also wasn't working because Ty Lawson is just too fast and kept breaking it down himself. He moved faster with the ball than the Louisville players without and they were constantly just overworking to play catch-up. That and they kept falling asleep with the easy transition buckets, at least in the first half. Had Louisville abandoned the press, or at least limited it, I think they would have maybe been able to push overtime. The Louisville game reminded me a lot of the other 1/3 seed game, Xavier and UCLA, except Louisville was not having the problem of shots not falling at all like Xavier did. Both UCLA and UNC were able to do things almost at will, though UCLA had a far easier time of it...

I'm not a huge basketball fan whatsoever, but I think I tollerate college bball better than pros, but I do love my Celtics now since they have some players and I can wear my Celts coat without shame Anyway, I'd like to get the NCAA ticket programming for football but I think it's rather costly..... Either way, I still think it's worth it because I live, eat, breathe, sleep, drink, dream, and masturbate college football (not masturbate TO college football).

Loser!! Anyway, everyone here watches hockey and it's annoying as hell because I have no clue what's going on; I feel like a woman watching football when I'm watching hockey But at least my roomies aren't trying to watch that ghey **** when the football season is on.

It is very rarely on here, so I don't get much of a chance. I usually won't turn it off if I stumble on a game, but I don't generally watch much tv as it is...there is a semi-pro hockey team (and a fuck soccer team), but neither one is televised much...I think there's a Triple A baseball team here also...

Unrelated, I will be driving through a snowstorm to get to the gym for the workout today...gah.

    Workout: Chest/Arms
    Exercises Used:

    BB Flat Press = 2 Warm-up sets
    Hammer Decline Bench Machine = 4 Work sets (200X7, 220,230X6, 240X5)
    Dips = 3 Work sets (BWX8,6,8)
    Hammer Super Incline Machine = 4 Work sets (140X6, 130,120X5, 110X4)
    Close-Grip Cable Curls = 4 Work sets (145,130X8, 120X10, 115X8) supersetted with
    Overhead Rope Tricep Extensions = 4 Work sets (145X4, 130X6, 120,115X7)
    Concentration Curls = 3 Work sets (40X5, 35X6, 30X8)
    Dip Machine = 3 Work sets (255,240,225X8)

Quality Level: Excellent. I really didn't know how to rate this one. I gave it an Excellent because I hit everything well, but I encountered problems with my Left Shoulder on and off through the workout, most notably on the Super Incline. Energy, despite me loading identically to yesterday, was completely off and everything felt heavier than normal today, including the Warm-up sets. On a more positive side, I had to push slightly harder, but the Left Arm was able to keep up with the Right...

    Diet: Numbers to come later.

Observations/Intel: I'm not sure about the recent addition to the PWO formulation. Also, I think I overdrove with AMP2 a bit much yesterday, so I'm going to try tinkering with that today to find a happier medium. This involves eliminating one of the ingredients from the PWO formulation that will not be in the final version (but is kind of fun to have in there on weekends) as well as reducing AMP2 to 2 caps.

Speaking of the PWO formulation, there is some very, very slight soreness in my Quads and Glutes, but it is not enough to interfere with Cardio, for instance. I probably could not re-train Legs again today (which means more tinkering still in order), but there is no problem with either mobility or with doing Cardio.

Speaking of, tomorrow is the projected start of Cardio...

    Workout: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpo...1&postcount=26

    Diet:
    Calories: ~2025
    Total carbs: 69g or ~13.5%
    Total fat: 79g or ~35%
    Total protein: 269g or ~53%
Score: 100% (5 of 5 goals) Everything was pretty much on the money today, although the timing of food was still slightly off and total calories could have been a touch higher.

Observations From The Deck: AMP2 was good at 2 caps today, so when I start splitting the dosage, i.e. the "normal" part of the Log, I'm going to try at 3/2, which will be 3 caps at 7:00 and 2 at 11:00 and see how that flies.

Auxiliary Intel: I'm looking forward to next weekend, both getting the bike and the Final Four games...hopefully this week blows by...

    Cardio starts tomorrow.

    Workout: Cardio
    Equipment Used: Precor Elliptical
    Duration: 45 minutes
    Driver: Mix Tape 3:A
    Calories: 493

Quality Level: Good. Air was fine tonight, but Legs were not all the way with it, probably because of the month and change layoff. I also forgot how much harder I have to work to hit the same calorie-burned number now that I am at a progressively lighter weight...

    Diet:
    Calories: ~1997
    Total carbs: 51g or ~10%
    Total fat: 78.5g or ~35.5%
    Total protein: 270g or ~54%
Score: 100% (5 of 5 goals) Didn't really want total calories that low...in fact, I'm debating raising the limits.

Observations From The Deck: 3/2 seems to be a very solid dosing for the AMP2, so that is what I will be running during the weekdays. One odd thing of note is that something is causing a very obnoxious aftertaste in my mouth. In one respect this is good, since it helps with my water intake in terms of motivation (not that I really need it, but on the positive side...). I suspect it to be a combination of LX2 and AMP2, since neither did it when I was running them by itself. Only 2 more days of LX2 and then we'll see if that's it or not if it goes away.

Auxiliary Intel: I need to redraw the PWO formulation, I think. I believe I may have excessively tinkered to the point where there is cancellation and even counter-effects that are well outside of what I want. Some slight muscle soreness in the groups worked yesterday, but also, inexplicably, there is alternating Shoulder pain. Yesterday was the left side for most of the day and it switched at some point in the evening to the right side. I think I've got it stretched out (and am pretty sure it is weather-related), but I'm planning on running Cardio again tomorrow, since I don't think either side can be worked in the present condition and doubt I will be ready to go tomorrow. Hopefully the projected Back workout on Wednesday will be ok still...

As to the redraw, I'm basically going back about 12 shifts, back to what is basically a modified version of about the 6th re-shift I came up with and then start testing with the final component in a couple of weeks or so. I think I'm realistically going to have to look at the end of May for the end of alpha.

You say you take 3 caps at 7AM? And 2 caps at 11AM I'm assuming?
