Three armed men have attacked a French satirical magazine based in Paris, killing at least 12 people, including four cartoonists and two policemen, officials have said.
The lawyer of the magazine confirmed that four cartoonists working with the publication, including the publisher Stephane Charbonnier, known as 'Charb', were among the dead.
The cartoonists known as Cabu, Tignous and Wolinski were also killed in the attack, AFP news agency quoted a judicial source as saying.
Charlie Hebdo has drawn repeated threats for its caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed, among other controversial sketches.
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the assault was carried out by three attackers.
Al Jazeera's Jacky Rowland, reporting from Paris, said journalists and cartoonists reported several masked men dressed in black entering the building who then began to fire with automatic weapons.
"Some journalists took refuge on the roof," Rowland said.
"Charlie Hebdo has pushed boundaries in the past, and continues to challenge the idea of censorship."
President Francois Hollande, speaking outside the office of the magazine, described the attack as having been carried out by barbaric people.
"This is an attack on free speech." he told reporters. "No one can harm the spirit of this country which is this newspaper".
Keep it civil, several earlier threads were closed for religion bashing.

Interestingly enough, that magazine made fun on ALL religions, but muslim is the one who thought killing someone over it would be a great idea. This isn't the first time muslim did something like this and we rarely see other religion killing someone over for something as silly as a cartoon, is there anything wrong with muslim value? A lot of muslims/Islamic states value religion more than people's life, why would they think that will be a good idea?

Well I guess he got a taste of peaceful Islam.
For those so inclined to claim that these gunmen were radicals or extremists; I have to say no, they were simply following the text of the Quran. They were just being Muslim.
Te punishment for insulting the prophet is death.

I'm confused Zen. Seems a bit weird making one news story into a sticky. But your forum, do as you need. Just a bit odd to me.
My thoughts go out to those killed in this horrible event. Such terrible people in the world.
Please reference the text from the Qur'an that states it's okay to murder anyone. Thanks.Thus let me live, unseen, unknown;
Thus unlamented let me die;

Yes, a thousand times yes. Muslims need to flock to the streets right now and preach peace. Non Muslims have only seen the death this religion brings, so Muslims need to do some positive PR. However, sadly I don't think that will ever happen.
Another thing modern Muslims need to do is to take out all the violence and death inciting text out of the Quran.Pursuit of Happiness

No other religions are causing these problems. Clearly Islam is the problem. What else would you have them do? Not all Muslims kill people for their religion, but vastly more do than any other religion.
If Muslims dont start actively getting rid of the bad ones, you leave the civilized world no choice but to do it for you, and I doubt they'd like that.
Take responsibility for members of your religion. If the truly don't represent islam, muslims should be on the forefront of putting an end to it.
This bullchit will never end otherwise. Only Muslims can stop the breeding of radical muslims, and if they don't want to handle it themselves, then they deserve a boot up the ass all the same.

All the atheism bashing threads in misc are left alone yet the others were closed for religion bashing. Seems hypocritical. And now you say questioning a mod can get you banned. Is there any point even commenting on this topic, because it seems posting anything will get you banned?
All posts associated with this account were purely for entertainment and comedic purposes. Under no circumstances should any posts by this account be taken seriously.

I doubt it.

As I tried to explain in the original thread. This is not a good moment for France.
It coincides with not only the rising tensions across Europe, but also with the release of French novelist Michel Houellebecq's "Submission"; a book that looks at France as being an Islamic nation by 2020. He suggests he's accelerating history and exploring the outcome. No doubt, the book is due to be a best-seller.
Moreover, how quickly it appears that Muslims seem to forget. Around the time of the Salman Rushdie affairs in the 1980's, France was a nation (particularly in the city of Lyon) that organized and ushered in the anti-racism protests 'SOS Racism'. Soon thereafter though, in 1987 (a mere 3 years later), those protests quickly turned into pro-Islamist demonstrations. France was a nation that pretty much unanimously welcomed and stood by Muslims; and in turned they've been faced with Sensitive Urban Zones, segregation, Islamist protests, and a whole lot of issues that otherwise never would've existed in their country. Of course, the prominent double-dialogue Islamic 'intellectuals' like Tariq Ramadan were witness to it all and covertly fueled a lot of it too.
The planets truly are aligning for a clash of civilizations in Europe and I don't think many Muslims quite understand the extent to which they're in danger. If I were a Muslim in Europe, I'd be planning my departure.

I do not believe Islam needs to do anything. However, Muslims do. There are overarching problems in our community with dynamic variables. Issues that are finally coming to light and starting to be addressed.
It won't happen overnight and will encounter a lot of resistance. But we'll get there.
Even if we implement some of the ideas I think would improve things, there will still be extremists in our community, a rebellious bunch that will not stop at anything to self destruct.Thus let me live, unseen, unknown;
Thus unlamented let me die;
Steal from the world, and not a stone

What a load of nonsense from a typical ignoramus. Since when have criminals been labeled by their religion ? - Is that what's reported everyime we switch on our TV channels ? - or read the newspapers ?
