I honestly think it has more to do with anthropological reasons. I'm pretty sure western blacks (african american, west indies, etc), all the offspring of former slaves and workers, have better physical genetics than those in Africa on average. You didn't cut it as an insulin sensitive, naturally fatter, short, weak black man or woman in 1700's/1800's America.

Also look at African climates. lean bodies are more suitable than those which store fat.

Not necessarily, not all slaves were used for back breaking work and some needed to have higher levels of intelligence and minimal education for their jobs. A lot of US blacks are naturally nonathletic and physically weak, they tend to be the smarter ones. Black women are actually shorter on average than white women so its not like all black people are prime athletic specimens.

Because if you had to hunt animals to survive and you weren't born with good muscle mass or the ability to gain muscle mass faster, you would die. Those who are dead can't reproduce. Poor muscle genetics are filtered out of the race. Other races didn't rely as much on hunting.
