Is it normal to get a bit light-headed in squats/deadlifts?

Just wondering if this happens for anyone else! thanks.

PS: I only feel it in stiff legged deadlifts, not sumo or regular

Inhale on the eccentric phase, exhale on the concentric phase. Standard Deadlifts are an exception, you should exhale when the barbell passes the knees.

I've always got alittle light headed on bigger lifts, so I would say its somewhat normal. As far as breathing goes it's my understanding that on big lifts (heavy squats and deads) you should hold the breathe throughout the lift to maintain core stability. as soon as you start to exhale your releasing pressure from your abdomen.

I'm fairly sure this is stated in starting strength your best bet would be to search proper breathing for each lift

I sometimes got light headed when I took pre-workout supplements like Jack3d or Assault and lifted heavy. Not so much anymore; dunno if PWO were the issue or because I was a newbie lifter.

Not sure if normal, but I often get light headed when lifting heavy.

Even saw stars a few times when deadlifting.

I'll get light headed on my heaviest conventional deads.

Never had it happen during SLDL.

I think its normal to happen to some degree from time to time...if you are almost passing out every time you do a certain exercise then something is not right.

I also tend to feel light headed after taking Jack3d, especially when doing squats. Sometimes leaves me feeling nauseous for a good half hour after a workout.

^Interesting. I have a bottle I got for free (dumb teenagers left it at the gym, I waited an hour for them, and figured the dumb kids could learn a lesson about taking responsibility for their property. Irony being I left my wallet and had to walk back to the gym halfway)

I think I'll skip it on leg day, then.

Yes breathe. Never hold your breath on squats or deadlifts. I've seen people almost pass out from the valsalva maneuver (holding your breathe ) don't be afraid to be that guy who breaths loud or grunts. Especially if your going heavy
