Hi
I have been having a debate with my bro about macros when bulking. I'm currently 168lb (5'8") and gaining a slow half pound of weight a week on a calorie goal of 3300 cal's. I'm eating my 0.45g of fats per lbm (between 65-80g) and my 1-1.5g of protein per lbm (between 160-190g) and the rest as carb's.
Now, my bro was debating the point that because the body has a use for excess protein, that its better to eat more of that than carb's.. But I thought that any excess calories are excess calories, no matter what the macronutrient is?
So in other words, am I better off increasing my protein to say 200-250g a day? or would that just be a waste?

No, it does not. In the end, it's total daily expenditure and intake that matters. Increase in carbs might make you look bloated and give you the illusion that proteins are superior in reducing fat gains, but water weight has nothing to do with actual fat decreases.
Increase in any macronutrients, after you hit your minimum macros, are entirely up to preference. If you find that you do better on higher carbs or vice versa, then it's best to increase that certain macronutrient.

protein and carbs are equally important when bulking. protein for recovery and building, carbs for energy. now is it better to eat more protein then carbs? well, that varies person to person. for me, i need more protein then carbs...but for others thats not the case. you should test to see what combo works for you.
my offseason diet sorta looks like this:
560g pro
450g carbs
160-180g fat
