Does anyone have any good ideas on ways to lower eating costs? I know tuna is a real cheap protein source. Fatty foods are cheap calories sources ie peanuts, whole eggs, mayo, etc. Beans are a cheap carb/protein source. Any other ideas? I'm trying to construct a nutritious (approx. equal parts fat, pro, carbs), decent tasting diet that is 3,000-3,400 calories and cost about $5-8/day.

Tuna - cheap
Oatmeal - cheap
Brown rice - cheap
Chicken breast - moderate (but if you buy fresh in bulk it evens out)
Eggs - cheap (buy the 15 dozen box)
Spices (garlic, peppers, etc) - cheap
If you don't have a membership to Sams or Costco, consider the cost of the membership into your budget (about $45-60), not to mention it's a once a year thing, so that's a relatively cheap way to buy. And buy in bulk since you'll be going through it like no other.

Buy the boneless skinless chicken breasts 10 pound bags for 19.99
Buy 16oz. cans of steamed chicken, turkey, tuns, salmon,
Buy Butterball Turkey burgers
Buy Sweet potatoes
Buy a 25 pound bag of brown rice
buy a water cooler $100. and the 6 gal jugs are $4 a peice appossed to $1 for a 12oz. of avion or whatever other DESIGNER water.
Buy large steaks (lean) london broils etc. and cut them yourself
Buy penut butter (natural only unless your really trying to bulk up)
Buy a gigantic contaner of oats
Buy a box of the Berkely Jensen equal like sweetener $7 for a lot.
Buy 5 dozen eggs for $3
This should hold you off for quite a long time. You may have to front a large amount but in the long run this is the cheapest way by far.
I now get off for about $100 for a whole months worth of groceries..."The important thing is this: to be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become."
