Basically about a month or so ago, me, my bro were going to make a supplement order...my bros friend wanted to join in and we ordered a few tubs of size-on... Upon ordering it, I found out that his parents weren't going to let him get it until clearing it with a doc. So the stuff comes in and the kid waits to take it... His doc is on vacation so his parents ask a pharmacist and she tells him he can use it. So he gains about 7 pounds from size-on and eating in about 3 weeks... When he gets home his parents go to their family doctor and she tells them that it may have steroids in it because of the quick weight gain and creatine is bad for your kidneys. His doc also says that the doc that I see isn't a real sports doctor and possibly a chiropractor (which is just plain stupid)...So at this point its extremely doubtful he can continue and things look like they couldn't possibly get any worse...but it does. His parents then take him to some random "specialist" who says creatine causes kidney problems and that he should stop taking whey because who knows what the companies put in them and it can damage kidneys... So to sum things up, now he can use neither whey not creatine...
I'm so happy I don't have to deal with this kinda ****.

that sucks. It's too bad that doctors will slander anything that they aren't getting paid to prescribe. But in reality, look at what they are prescribing to their patients; medications which will lead you onto further medications. And they say what they prescribe is safer? It's just part of a shameless life that some (doctors) choose to live.

I continually get questioned on this and have continually answered the same. Side effects from creatine and whey products are rare but at the same time VERY POSSIBLE. There have been numerous studies that have shown kidney function suffer from not taking or cycling creatine correctly. Anything you put in your body your body has to process. Most things in a pill and powder form are processed through your kidneys at one point or another. Take too much tylenol and see what your liver does. Take too much naproxen and see how your kidney's react. Same principal applies to Supplements. If I went and downed my WHOLE BOTTLE OF ORANGE TRIAD. Pretty sure my body wouldn't respond positively.
Yes we get creatine in meats but not 10grams of it. There is no possible way to get that amount from just eating meat alone. YOU'de be eating red meat all day long.
The term "Everything in Moderation" applies to supplements too. So by his doctor saying creatine and protein can cause kidney damage he's right and wrong. But with only two kidneys you should always air on the side of caution. Get blood work done (as I do every 3 months) and see how your body handles it.

Key word being amounts.............Just tell your boy to play it safe. Explain that there are worst supplements he could be taking and he's responsible enough to be open and honest about what he wants to do and how he's doing it. As well as he's mature enough to regulate what and how much he puts in his body in a responsible and safe fashion.

This is a great study to use it talks about creatine being used in athletes with safe and desierable results. Tell him to check it out. Just google the phrase below and check out that study. Good luck

and health effects of oral creatine supplementation.

There is less concern today than there used to be about possible kidney damage from creatine, although there are reports of kidney damage, such as interstitial nephritis. Patients with kidney disease should avoid use of this supplement. Similarly, liver function may be altered, and caution is advised in those with underlying liver disease
Has your friend been tested for kidney disease??? My nephrologist (KIDNEY SPECIALIST/DOC) believes there is a link in kidney inflamation in people with normal kidney function as well. My blood work certainly suggest so and I have yet to be diagnosed with any kidney disease as well.
BOTTOM LINE is FOR MOST PEOPLE creatine used in a manner that's safe will be effective and safe but for people to say his doctor is wrong about it risking kidney damage may be a stretch. Nothing wrong with airing on the side of caution.
