Is powerbuilding just a fancy word for strength training?

You know, I'm definetly set on training for strength right now. Hypertrophy training can wait, I want to get my lifts up. I started IA's Simple Power based routine.

I ran across the word powerbuilding. What exactly is powerbuilding? I'm assuming from the name its a cross between powerlifting and bodybuilding. How does a powerbuilding routine look like?, I'm quite curious.

powerbuilding = a rep range that is suitable for both strength and muscle gains. IMO a strength base program would easily pack on size if your macros are correct.

I see, we'll would someone looking to gain strength be better geared towards powerbuilding or just straight up powerlifting?

Powerlifting is purely about moving bigger weights for competitions.
Powerbuilding is strength and aesthetics minded.

    I see.

    When should one consider powerbuilding?

I'm looking up some powerbuilding stuff now, looks interesting.

I wouldn't look at it that way... Id say powerbuilding is just a word that defines your goals, regardless of your experience level.

Bodybuilding, powerlifting, powerbuilding... they're all crap. It's all about the Bodylifting. When I'm walking around town I'll pick up random children and sprint 40yds with them. Then I'll set them down and find the next child. Bodylifting at its finest!

Powerbuilding is a word made up by strong guys who know that they'll never put in enough effort diet-wise to get into the < 12% BF range. It's the weightlifting equivalent of "custodial engineer." For an example, look to the left of this post.

Right there is your problem. You should be picking up women. Not only would it be more exercise, it would be more fun.

I'm afraid to ask how the whole low/high intensity interval thing works for that.

But I'm going to do it anyway. How does the whole low/high intensity interval thing work for that?

Well, its bascially just one short 30 second high intensity interval followed by one long low intensity interval where I sleep for the next 5 hours.

    Seriously.
I paid the personal trainer at my gym a lots of cash moneys for this routine. I'm not about to give it out for free to some shlomo on the intarweb!

    this thread is hillarious

    but ill answer the question.

and im gonna answer it from my perspective so dont bash me about it. this is my own opinion.

to me, bodybuilding is more about looking good. its not so much a strength oriented thing rather than a look-good oriented thing. powerlifting on the other hand is strictly to improve the big 3 lifts. if it means hypertrophy then so be it - but whatever u do when ur powerlifting ur doing it to become stronger on the big 3.

now for me, powerbuilding is just a label i use to put my goals in a simple word. i want to grow strong over a long period of time. as per mark rippetoe's book, u could say i want to be stuck in the intermediate phase where i can sustain weekly progress with relatively medium recovery for a long long long time. i have no intention of benching 800 lbs by the time im 24 and staying at that till im 60. id rather work my way up 1 lbs at a time till i hit 800 lbs @ 60. so IMO, powerbuilding is when u want to gain strength more than mass but u want mass as well - its just that getting bigger isnt ur primary focus but more of an essential by-product.

there is strongman training and i think one very reputed member who posts in Iron619's journal and i think Ripstone's journal once said that the best way to define strong man lifting is "so u can do a deadlift with 500 lbs? great. now lets lift that 500 lbs and race to the finishing line". lol...i think it was his signature....

    im a powerbuilder.

I ran across the word powerbuilding. What exactly is powerbuilding? I'm assuming from the name its a cross between powerlifting and bodybuilding. How does a powerbuilding routine look like?, I'm quite curious.
    Basically, full body strength training.

As opposed to powerlifting which focuses on 3 lifts.
