Ok, I go to this small gym and there was a group of guys working out there. I'm in my 30s and everyone there was between 35-55. When I enter the gym I did say hello to the "gym alpha" since I have talked to him before. Than I prepare to workout and hit the bench, there was a group of guys next to me working out all in their 30-40s and once I began benching they all got their stuff and moved to another part of the gym completely and away from me. Basically out of sight so I wouldn't see them and they wouldn't see me. I don't understand why but this is starting to bother me, am I not doing something right here since we all train in the same gym and I just step into this gym to workout meanwhile a group of guys like a pack of ****ing dogs all get up and walk to another part of the gym together to get away from me
So what did i do to them? I don't even know them

We had to move. You fart every time you do a rep man! Way to clear out a room!

I would be glad they moved so I could workout in peace. Let them have their social club.

OP I haven't seen the layout of your gym so I'm only guessing. In our gym the benches are very close together so we start as far from each other as possible. We only get next to each other when the benches are full. If you had gotten next to me and another bench was available I would move. I cant take the chance of someone accidentally walking into the bar while I'm pressing. Plus maybe they finished there exercise and the next exercise was across the gym. Overall don't worry about it. Lots of folks in gyms that want to get there work done and have as much space as possible.

I don't look for interaction in the gym at all...some people I see often say hi, or I do, but this is just being polite. If I sat down to work out and a group packed up and left, I probably wouldn't notice...if I did, I would likely be relieved because groups of people standing around chatting distracts me. In fact, odds are if they stuck around I might move if they were bothering me.
If you are there hoping to meet people, you might keep in mind that most are probably focussed on their objectives - even if working with multiple people in a group. I'm usually low on breath and time, so no talking or almost none for me.

I like my space when I go to the gym. I felt rude moving the other day, but my gym has 13 bikes and I was the only one on one of them. Someone comes and sits down at the bike next to mine and since I like my space, I almost immediately got up and moved to another bike with space. I just want my own space and air.

Do you have body oder?
Ive known guys in the past that i would move away from that had a funky smell.
Many times the person is use to their own scent.
If not i would be as mentioned happy they moved on.
Maybe they decided to do something different.
If it bothers you that much you may have an issue of some sort.

Don't let your junk hang out..
Shower before and after your workout...if going to a gym...
Use Deodorant, if no shower before hand...kinda like getting ready for a date.
Be happy they moved...

Maybe they don’t like Russians. I’ve trained in Russian gyms and men acting like children also occurs from time to time if they see a foreigner training in their xenophobic little hole. I’m neither Russian nor American but I’ve observed both of these cultures at their finest and it leaves a lot to be desired.
I don’t know how Russian you are, but if your mannerisms are similar to what I usually see in most Russians or Slavs in general, eg, “I want, I take” that also might have been too much for your American friends.
Just focus on your lifting, man, rather than socialising or trying to understand a dynamic that isn’t very important to your training goals.
Others here have mentioned other issues which may also contribute to their behaviour, again who knows 🤷🏼♂️

The only time I cam close to violence in a gym was when I took a 10Kg weight from the end of a bar when that I genuinely thought some guy had finished benching. The guy was enormous, looked very slavic, he has the nose and ears from many years of competition fighting, he was one of the biggest and most vicious looking people you could meet. If you wanted to cast someone in a film role as the biggest Russian hitman/mob killer, this guy would be ideal. He was livid -- I was taking his weight. Actually after he calmed down realised it was all a misunderstanding he insisted on giving me the weight, and later on stopped to give me advice on form (facepull, elbow position). I'd just caught him on a very bad day. He also turned out to be the husband of a friend of my wife and he's a thoroughly nice guy. Also he's Latvian (not Russian).
So remember what they say... about not judging books by their covers! so maybe you should focus on your lifting?
