My oldest sister Noemi was put on life support last night. Back in 2012 she gave me POA to never put her on life support. She since married after that and has been married for about 3 years now. Her husband wants to keep her on life support, but my sister was very adament about not being on life support. We have a meeting at 2 PM today, I am hoping the POA over rules his rights as her husband....
My sister Noemi was my second mother, she raised me as I was the youngest. I will never ever forget her.....

Dam man.... you keep getting dealt serious chit like this all the dam time!! Thank god you are such a strong minded individual. When we had an issue like this the husband/wife had the right to over rule us as a family, but you may want to call an attorney and ask the question.
There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

Oh, man.. Really sorry to hear this, John..
Keeping you and the family in my thoughts and prayers. This above all..
To thine ownself be true..
And it must follow, as the night the day..
Thou can'st not then be false to any man..

This will sound callous, but pull the plug. I had to make the decision for my brother when I was 21 and I didn't think about it for a second, as I knew his wishes.
This isn't about you and this isn't him, it's about her. I don't know how you get your BIL to see it that way, but it really is that simple (imo).
If she gave you POA for this purpose, she might have a DNR, advanced directive or whatever else you call it, around somewhere for exactly this situation.Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

I have to agree with David. You have to understand that for him he's not just losing a wife, he's losing a dream of their years together, he's losing the role and status of being a husband, he's losing so much more and you have to let him come to grips with all of that.
Prayers for you all.Was friends with Methuselah

Really sad news man, heart goes out to your family and you. This isn't an easy spot to be in. But as 2nd_chance mentioned her wishes are why she put you in charge in case this happened and you have to do as she wanted. It is so easy to just type that out as I'm not going through it, but I think it's likely the best approach you have here.

Sorry to hear this. Hopefully there was a DNR or MOLST form filled out ahead of time. My wife is terminal and I know I will be facing that decision at some point in the next 1-2 years so I can completely sympathize with you.
Best of luck, take deep breaths. The pain is short term. The benefits are long term.

So sorry you're going through this. Standing up for the woman who raised you and helping her husband understand what she wanted is going to be the hardest and most worthwhile fight of your life. Be calm and empathetic and give him the time to process
Strength and good thoughts, wishing your sister peace

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Her husband agree to respect her wish when he saw the POA and saw for himself what Noemi wanted. We took her off life support and now we are waiting, she truly is remarkable person with such a strong will. She is breathing on her own and we are just waiting.
