I actually give up Misc. I'm destined to be FA for life. Not even going to bother trying to socialise with humans anymore. Just going to buy 6 different fleshlights for Monday to Saturday and then see a hooker after Church on Sunday evening before work starts again Monday.
Semi-long cliffs on me trying to make a friend:
- OP went to gym for the first time in about a year (he does running and hiking but not lifting)
- OP didn't have clue what he is doing so did press ups, pull ups, sit ups, etc
- Some brah asked OP if he can share the pull up bar and started doing weighted muscle ups
- OP starts mirin' and takes out ear pods to make human interaction to ask for tips
- Brah doesn't give much advice just says to stay consistent and keep trying when you fail
- OP thinks he needs to say something to get this guys attention to give him some free serious tips as sessions with a personal trainer are around $60-80 dollars each in this mid to upper end gym
- OP decides to change approach to nutrition in the hope that once conversation is flowing, he can drop in questions about lifting, calisthenics and building a good frame/core to enhance running and mountain climbing
- OP tells brah he has recently gone veggie to become jacked at low BF% like Arnold and would appreciate some tips on how to supplement extra protein outside of Quorn, nuts, and eggs?
- Calisthenics brah gives OP the BIGGEST BERTSTARE he has or will ever receive in his life at the Arnold comment
- But he replies with serious advice and tells OP to have 100g of cottage cheese with his lunch and dinner everyday
Next couple of gym sessions:
- OP and brah see each other, couple of head nods and smiles
- One time they end up sharing bar again so get chatting about music
- Turns out brah is a hip hop fan so there's a mutual appreciation of 1990s stuff i.e. Nas - Illmatic album
- OP and brah grab a Shake Shack after gym and OP treats him to a Burger & Ale for all the tips
- OP tells brah he is eating a 300g tub of Pineapple Cottage Cheese everyday
- Brah is happy OP took his tip and they talk about normal things like movies, sports, games and even girls (OP makes up stories to seem like a slayer)
- We become friends and things are looking up: I actually leave my house to meet someone for once
OP does goof and loses friend due to social awkwardness:
- OP went to ASDA (UK Walmart) today to do a bulk shop for a 3 week placement working as a Consultant on client site
- Due to end of the week, there was a low stock of Pineapple Cottage Cheese's
- OP needed 21 tubs as he would be remote away from cities living on a refinery improving operational efficiency
- Only 20 tubs left so OP takes all of them and then heads over to buy some tinned mackerel
- Turns out Calisthenics brah was also in ASDA to do his chicken breast, turkey and cottage cheese shopping
- He sees OP with trolley full of tubs and smiles at him in a GJDM way
- Brah goes to buy Pineapple Cottage Cheese but they are all gone
- Calisthenics brah comes up to OP and asks if he can have some tubs, even 1 or 2
- Because of the trip I was going on, I had to say no.
- Brah asks a worker if there are any more, he says no, not until tomorrow now unfortunately
- Brah comes up to OP at checkouts and asks again. OP says no again.
- Calisthenics brah gives OP a 'not sure if srs' look and says "you wouldn't even know about Pineapple Cottage Cheese if it wasn't for me" and decides to forcefully take 2 tubs
- OP slaps them out of his hand and then asks for a manager to come
- Brah leaves his shopping basket and drives off home with no tubs
Since the supermarket incident:
- OP messaged brah he is going away for 3 weeks to a remote place so can't get them there
- Brah told OP to piss off and never message him again
- OP apologised and said I hope we can still be friends, get some tomorrow when they re-stock
- Calisthenics brah has been NC on OP since
So I guess i'm back to being FA. I've got 20 tubs of Pineapple Cottage Cheese but no friends. FML

Unfortunately not. I have very few social skills. I'm an excellent engineer, but I don't leave the house much outside of work.
And if I do, it's to go hiking alone. I recently bought a BMW 5-series to enjoy life as an FA and even calisthenics brah believed I was a slayer because of it. But all I do is take it to the moutains, drive around the roads, climb them, sit at the top and come home to read misc threads.
I've received some advice in previous threads about making friends at the gym. You have to give me credit for trying, I really did. Even treated the guy to a meal and we were hitting it off. But he's now gone indefinitely NC

I get that, I really do. But are you aware of the surroundings of an oil refinery? For health and safety reasons, there can't be residential homes around there. The shopping is done and delivered in special trucks. There's not a supermarket for miles and I can't exactly say to a client, do you mind me putting off your project work to drive to get some pineapple cottage cheese?
For this one occasion, I had to be selfish. And before you say I could have just cut my one day of eating, firstly I already am by taking 20 tubs instead of 21, and secondly, the only reason he paid me any attention and started talking to me was because I said i'm trying to become Arnold.
Do you really think Arnold would skip a day of one of his core nutritional meal components? I had to show him I was serious about this.
For him, he could have taken a small hit today, not had any for Sunday and grabbed as many as he liked Monday morning when it was re-stocked. I didn't have that option. I know he introduced me to the product and I appreciate his advice, hence why I apologised after the incident.
But thinking rationally like a good engineer rather than emotionally as a human, I believe I did the right thing and achieved the best trade-off

dude you arent arnold, you arent a professional bodybuilder
you not eating cheese for a couple days wouldnt have any impact on your life what so ever
Ive worked in an oil camp, you could have eaten plenty of healthy meals instead of cottage cheese
Stop justifying yourself
having a friend > cottage cheese for a dayGreat MAGA King status
