    Squats

When you squat is your back supposed to be straight as if you were doing a wall sit or is it normal for you to bend forward (still with a straight back) ?

Depends on which type of squat your doing.

Front squat, your back will be more vertical
High bar squat - less vertical
Low bar - even less vertical - more horizontal

The bar should be over your mid foot at all times.

** I'm just trying to remember what I read from Starting Strength** as I only do low bar

Great thanks for that, no I usually use a barbell @ the gym and just wanted to check that I was in the correct position, when I do squats without weight back should be vertical as well right?

    These are all barbell squats.

From Left to right - Front Squat, High Bar Squat, Low Bar Squat

See how the bar is always directly over the midfoot? That's your ideal position. So depending on where you put the bar will determine the angle of your back. Hope this helps

    Great image for squatting.

Also, be sure when you squat your movement is under control - squat slowly while in control. This will help you get the form right when you're visualizing to align your back properly.

doing vertical squat is very hard and only some people can do it. They need to be enough short and very flexible. You lean your back ofc

When you guys do squats do you always use weights? Is that more effective or is it ok to not use any weights?
