Been living in New Jersey all my life and I can honestly say that like 90% of the people here are stuck-up a$$holes. Just completely unfriendly. It feels like nobody wants to fcking talk to you and everyone just wants do their own thing/remain in their own circle. Brb trying to start small talk and getting the "do I even know you? Why are you talking to me?" look/vibe from them.
In contrast, I went to Virginia on vacation one year and everyone was so damned friendly. I mean I DIDN'T even have to know anybody and anyone off the street would just talk to me like I was their friend or something. Ran into a lot "warm", friendly people over there. In stores, on the street, etc. I thought it was crazy. I felt so much more comfortable being myself and letting my guard down a little.
What state in the US is the friendliest on average? Which is the least friendly/has the most a$$holes?
Personally I'm going to nominate New Jersey as America's a$$hole capital and give the title of friendliest state to Virginia.
Discuss.

This relates to a thought i had the other day. I think there are connections to red states and friendly people. In Texas, my buddy said people will wave at each other on the freeway. The red states i have visited, Arizona, Montana, and Utah, people are generally nicer. California, New York have some of the most angry, and unfriendly people i have ever met.

when I lived in Tennessee people would wave at you on empty country roads as you passed by, never knew anyone or any of them either.

I go to NYC every once in a while, it's like 10 minutes away from where I live. To be honest I never interact with people enough to get a feel for them though.
The "New Yorkers are a$$holes" thing is a common thing I hear said by people. I don't really know how true it is though. A shame, because I was thinking about possibly transferring to NYU.
I wonder how it is up in Upstate though, like in the Catskills."Notice that the stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending with the wind."-Bruce Lee
