UNCLEWADE RETURNS
WITH
iFORCE COMPETE
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Before I outline my future goals and the present steps I'm taking to meet them, I think it's constructive to the purpose of this log to outline where I've been regarding my training history. I'm a former high school athlete [offensive lineman and middle distance runner] that has been exposed to a wide variety of training styles and principles in my eight or so years of training. Of that, only the last two - since I've graduated - have been dedicated solely to the weightroom and becoming a better lifter. I've made some nice progress in that time, and I hope that this log will illustrate a continuation of that progress during the time I spend with iForce's Compete.
I've made the move from a skinny middle distance runner when I graduated [weighing in at ~165-175 pretty consistently through my last two track seasons] into a somewhat well-developed lifter at a decently lean 201.8 pounds [see below].
WHY DID COMPETE INTEREST ME?
One of the greatest hindrances to even more progress in these past two years has been my incredibly demanding summer job. A hectic schedule of intense labor related to asphalt contracting and paving leaves me sometimes concerned about the intensity of my workouts. In short, it's often difficult to remain properly hydrated working in the hot summer sun for eight or more hours a day, and recovering from the previous night's workouts - especially the more demanding days such as back or legs - is a big issue for my performance at work and again in the gym the next day.
Compete seems to address both of these vital concerns - it has complexes both to improve my level of hydration and also help me recover from intense workouts. While I understand that the majority of progress comes from proper diet and exercise, the demands of my job definitely make me a viable subject to benefit from the fine-tuned performance enhancements dietary supplements offer. The profile is listed below, and I think you'll be impressed.
TIME TO COMPETE
Before we start this awesome journey, I'd like to take a moment to thank iForce for their ongoing support and excellent customer service - especially Vaughn, who has always been a well-respected and knowledgeable resource to me during my time on these boards [and I joined pretty much at the start of this dedicated lifting journey in September of 2010].
Tomorrow I'll start with a basic chest workout with two scoops of Compete. I've also got a scoop of Maximize Intense left [sad day] and Hemavol [pills] so we'll hopefully have an incredible day with iForce!

Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.
Srsly, lifting plus your work on the hot asphalt, I'm curious on how our Compete will help enhance your recovery
INITIAL IMPRESSIONS
TASTE
As it's been my first experience with Compete in the Tangy Tangerine flavor, I won't give it a numerical score as yet.
With that being said, the taste is absolutely fantastic. One of my major complaints about intraworkout products is the category's generally unpalatable nature of the taste and this is of absolutely no concern with Compete. I'm incredibly picky because I lift with a high level of intensity and am usually found to be drinking only water because the taste of intras doesn't suit me, or leaves my mouth feeling dry. I don't think this will be an issue here - mixing one half of a scoop with 6 ounces of ice cold water, the flavor is delicious [I likened it to a mixture of Sunny D and heaven when speaking with Vaughn earlier] but also light and very refreshing. It's tasty but thirst quenching, which I think is a critical combination to have in an intra. We'll put this to the test tomorrow!
MIXABILITY
No clumps, no grits, a slight layer of foam - no problems, no complaints. This is great in a supplement category which also leaves me with a layer of grit or clumping on the top because of poorly mixing free-form aminos or other ingredients. I'm again happy with the performance, and look forward to seeing it replicated tomorrow.Last edited by UncleWade; 07-21-2012 at 09:24 PM.

22 JULY 2012 - CHEST
SONG OF THE DAY
Show Me How to Live
Audioslave
Turn it up or turn it off!
LIFT:
Barbell Flat Bench Presses
SETS:
10x45
10x95
10x135
5x185
8x225
8x225
7x225
6x225
OBSERVATIONS:
From 10 July - 16 July 2012, I took a short break from lifting to allow my muscles to rest, recovery, and reload. I typically don't like to do deloads or have complete weeks off, but it's been quite some time since I've done such a thing and it felt right. Usually my presses are greatly affected by time off, and this was no exception - on 17 July 2012, my last chest day, my numbers were significantly lower despite supplemental help. It's great to see a return to some near-PR numbers today. Weighing in at 198.4, hitting these reps for bench was outstanding. I was using proper powerlifting form with a strong back arch, and a medium-width grip. I use a slow eccentric pace and an explosive concentric [4-0-1-0]. Rest periods ranged from 2-4 minutes, with longer times in between the later sets.
LIFT:
Dumbbell Incline Presses
SETS:
10x40
12x75
10x75
10x75
10x75
OBSERVATIONS:
Dumbbell incline presses are one of my weaker exercises, although with consistent inclusion into my program I do see leaps and bounds regarding their strength. This is the first time in some months that I've incorporated them for more than one set [think Yates HIT training], and it was quite taxing after heavy barbell presses. At this stage in the game, it was almost difficult for me to contract the muscle explosively from the bottom of the ROM, mostly because of the absolutely ridiculous pump I was experiencing. Whenever my muscles really get engorged with blood, it seems that they're weighed down past the point of intense explosiveness - but I'm still not complaining. My form on this exercise is nearly that of a flye, with a wide and low ROM to maximize the contraction of the pecs, and touching the dumbbells near the top of the ROM - this echoes Dorian Yates's prescribed form for things such as overhead press, which stimulates the target muscle as much as possible without undue triceps activity.
LIFT:
Weighted Dips
SETS:
12xBodyweight + 1 Heavy Chain
10xBodyweight + 1 Heavy Chain
10xBodyweight + 1 Heavy Chain
8xBodyweight + 1 Heavy Chain
OBSERVATIONS:
I use incredibly strict form with dips on chest day to really activity the entire pectoral, much like a decline barbell press. Leaning forward as far as possible and having the elbows flared left me feeling a great contraction and pump in the chest without undue strain on the shoulder joints, but again the pump seemed to limit my explosive concentric action.
LIFT:
Incline Dumbbell Flyes
SETS:
15x20
15x20
15x20
15x20
15x20
15x20
15x20
OBSERVATIONS:
These were done in the style of Hany Rambon's FST7 Protocol. I kept the weight extremely light for an excellent contraction and controllable weight, and rest periods were between ~20-30 seconds in between each set. This amount of volume and the awesome pump I was able to get from such high volume packed into a short time period was absolutely incredible, and was a great finishing move to really exhaust the pecs.
SUPPLEMENTS + COMPETE OBSERVATIONS

(1) serving iForce Compete
(1) full serving iForce Hemavol pills
@30MIN-PRE:
(1) full serving Maximize Intense

OBSERVATIONS:
I'll keep anything I feel is unrelated to Compete short and sweet.
iForce Hemavol
It's still the king of the pump.
iForce Maximize Intense
A brilliant stimulant-packed stacker with Hemavol for those seeking to literally maximize their performance.
iForce Compete
Here's what we're really all here for.
One of the most noticeable things to me in the weightroom today, and with taking a preworkout dose, was the focus that the mental edge matrix really seemed to provide. It allowed me to lock on to things and get in the zone - even focusing on cars ahead of me to and from the gym. Hydration is also clearly important to performance - and this is backed by numerous clinical studies - and I can only hypothesize that the preworkout dose, along with significant quantities of water, helped perpetuate some of the bigger numbers in my core exercise.
I will report back tomorrow regarding recovery - and, before I check out, I would like to mention that 1 scoop in 12 ounces of water tastes equally delicious, and I continue to have zero problems with mixability.NOV || Ohio Chapter || Be more, have less.

23 JULY 2012 - BACK
SONG OF THE DAY
The Day That Never Comes
Metallica
LIFT:
Chin-ups
SETS:
8xBodyweight
8xBodyweight
6xBodyweight + 1 Heavy Chain
6xBodyweight + 1 Heavy Chain
OBSERVATIONS:
You'll see it time and time again - perfect form is important to me. While I've previously trained for explosive power and have focused on fast-twitch performance rather than an excellent contraction or appropriate time under tension in the past [as an amateur high school powerlifter and football player], now I've noticed that taking the time and care to do each exercise without ego and with fantastic form perpetuates a much better aesthetic improvement in the bodybuilding context - and chin-ups are no exception. I go for an extreme stretch at the bottom of each rep to eliminate all momentum [thing Doggcrapp style stretches for the back] and a strong squeeze and contraction at the ROM. This makes the lift very taxing, especially compared to the normal chin-up often seen at boot camp or in CrossFit videos.
LIFT:
Barbell Bent Over Row
SETS:
10x135
10x135
10x135
OBSERVATIONS:
I do barbell rows standing on the bench, as per Arnold Schwarzenegger style. This leaves me almost parallel to the ground [somewhat similar to Pendlay rows] and allows me to have a long ROM that gives me the ability to stretch at the bottom, explode upwards, and have a strong contraction at the top of the rep as a I pull the bar up and in to my stomach.
LIFT:
Dumbbell Bent Over Row
SETS:
10x65
10x65
10x65
OBSERVATIONS:
As with other lifts, the stretch and contraction is imperative here. While training explosively using rows in the Kroc fashion, it's important to keep in mind that I can rep 100-110 pound dumbbells for up to 35 reps, and have also power cleaned over 315 on rare occasion. The strength is there, but again perfect form brings out the best aesthetic development and I focused hard on it here. I do dumbbell bent over rows at approximately a 45-degree angle with the floor.
LIFT:
Neutral-Grip Pulldown
SETS:
10x200
10x200
10x200
OBSERVATIONS:
Strict form maintained.
LIFT:
Wide-Grip Low Cable Rows
SETS:
10x150
10x150
10x150
OBSERVATIONS:
The combination of a wide grip and an arched back allowed me to really focus on the inner portions of my upper back - call it detail work.
LIFT:
Straight-Arm Pulldown
SETS:
12x50
12x50
12x50
12x50
12x50
12x50
15x50
OBSERVATIONS:
FST7 Protocol, ~30 seconds rest per set.

SUPPLEMENTATION:
@60MIN-PRE:
(10) pills iForce Hemavol
(6) caps Cellucor NO3 Chrome
@30MIN-PRE:
(1) serving iForce Compete
(1) serving SNS Focus XT - Black Cherry
@INTRA:
(1) serving iForce Compete
OBSERVATIONS:
iForce Compete
Today was a challenging day in the gym - I moved the weight for quite a bit of volume through the back after a long day of recruiting the back packing down asphalt by hand with a metal plate, and shoveling. The gym itself was also a more adverse climate than usual - typically it's about ten degrees cooler than the outside air because of its construction, but today the large doors at each end were left open and the football team was practicing during my time with the weights [I help coach weightlifting and offensive line at my alma mater] - and with a high of ~92 degrees today and high humidity from storm/rain fronts moving through, I worked up a great sweat even halfway through my pullups. My focus and hydration prevailed.
In regards to recovery from yesterday - my chest is quite sore. It might be a vicious cycle with Compete - if it keeps pushing PRs and helping me achieve new highs, it might be expecting alot to recover faster, too.
I'm taking an off day tomorrow - I think - but stay tuned for legs on Thursday.NOV || Ohio Chapter || Be more, have less.
