Was at dinner with my family, the seats were arranged like this:
we were within ear shot of the table next to us, and as they were ordering their food, the father asks his 8 or 9 yr old daughter what she wants to drink
she replies with "oh shut up" in a loud condesending voice....not a single **** was given by the dad, all he said was "well sweetie what do u want to drink?" and she just rolled her eyes and went back to talk to another family member at the table...
i was tempted to neg her ****in chin irl but calmly looked over to the father and gave him a bert stare before asking if he was going to let her talk to him like that, he just shrugged it off like it was normal
gonna be honest if that ever happens to me (ive got 2 sons) i will make sure they rue the ****in day they ever talked to me like that (let alone any adult)
am i over reacting here? is this normal in todays society for children to treat their parents like dog ****? what would u do misc?

Fortunately my kids aren't that rude, yet. I have gotten good at quietly disciplining them (esp my 4yo son) when in a public place. I have enough things that I can take away from them and they know I don't fck around. If they get out of hand I will take them out of wherever we are and talk in a more private place. I find that you can be initially harsh without yelling and that works about 80% of the time. If that doesn't work I do the calm and quiet approach, usually make them repeat whatever it is I'm telling them to do (sit down, be quiet, be nice, etc) and then make them shake on it.
The most important thing is if you say you are going to do something, be prepared to follow through. If I say no computer for the week, then that's what happens. The worst thing (and what my wife does) is to say something like "we're not going to grammas house/your friend's party/disney world/whatever" and know that you will never follow through on that.I'm not DrewDarden
