Dude you just need to know where to look. They used to sell the PowerTec power rack on this site for $349 (free shipping) on sale like once every year. Good rack too:
http://bodybuilding.wikkii.com/wiki/Power_Racks
http://powertecfitness.com/p-31-work...k-wb-pr11.aspx
That power rack accpets dipping handles attachments too.
And Dick's sporting goods sells 300lb olympic weight sets (starter olympic bar included - probably won't bend till 600lbs) for $200:

So for $600 you can find new equipment that's decent.

Honestly buy gym membership... it'd be better for you because you'll have all the machines, dumbells and barbels.
Although my friend has a home gym (which I go to as my gym) he spent roughly $4000 on the gym equipment he bought. We got about 4 barbells, 10 dumbells, 2 benches, A squat Rack, Seated Toe raise machine and about 600kg (Rough guess could be more or less).
Equation is:
$300 for Gym membership (A year)
OR
$4000 on gym equipment
Do the maths."Once you want it as bad as you want to breath then you'll be successful"

I didnt like going to the gym because I was very insecure about how skinny I used to be. so I bought a combo bench, a barbell, and spin lock dumbbells. I have used this system for almost 4 years now. sure its a litte awkward for me to do squats with the rack on the bench, but I still get the job done. Id buy dumbbells and a barbell in the 1 inch standard plate so the plates are interchangeable through your spin lock and barbell. It will cost you some $ at the end of the day....

Dumbells are good but your limited to the preset weights*Mechanical Engineering Crew*
