    Coffee before morning cardio?

Is this ok to have a cup of coffee before my cardio? It wakes me up, and I wait about 30 min before I jump into it. Anyone??

Yes it's fine. I also suggest eating something too so you won't burn muscle, as fasted cardio is not necessary.

I would think it would be okay as long as it's before you do your workout. However, when I go to the gym at 5-6 am I see people actually drinking steaming coffee while lifting. I'm pretty sure that's not advisable.

I have my huge 2 cups about 2 hours before my workout and I've had no problems...I do have to eat something small though. I'm not sure if it's because of so much coffee or just because I have to wait 2 hours before being able to get to the gym, but I'm STARVING in the mornings.

LOL I see this at my gym too! It cracks me up- but then again they also serve Beer there too. So it shouldn't suprise me. (it's a tennis club)

I always have a cup or two before doing my cardio. I actually drink coffee before doing strength training at night too because it gives me the pick up in the evening that I need. It shouldn't cause a problem, though I've noticed if I drink way too much I'll have palpitations during exercise.

You, miss, are a very smart person. Keep enjoying your coffee pre-workout. That whey will help you preserve some lean mass, while the caffeine will release some fatty acids for oxidation.

    Keep up the good work.

Its fine to drink coffee before cardio. It actually helps because it facilitates shifting to burn more fat and less glycogen.

Gotta chime in on the coffee before the gym - LOVE IT (and need it)!! I'm going to add some chocolate whey now too. Thanks for the tip, Rockstar! Makes more sense than having a separate whey shake. That's just too many liquids before the gym!

I also love the Coffee Mate sugar free creamer. I use the hazelnut. Yum!

It doesnt matter what type of whey you use, but it really helps my chocolate cravings as well. Just make sure its not steaming hot when you add the whey, it wont mix well and will clump. I think I;ll have a cup right now!!

whenever I have a chance to do cardio in the morning, I always have coffee. I usually have my cup of coffee and my bottle of water and while I am warming up drink the coffee and then once I get hot drink the water.

Back when I could do cardio every morning, (my busy schedule doesn't allow me to do this anymore, I like sleep and don't get to bed til midnight or later and am up getting ready for work at 6) I would have thought this was gross. But now I have become somewhat dependent upon morning coffe, especially if I'm up at 5 doing cardio!

I actually saw something on the news a few months back that said a little bit of caffeine right before cardio was good for you....didn't really catch what was so good about it though.

Totally love my coffee before a workout weights or cardio! Sometimes i tend to go without if it is very hot, but it does give me the buzz i need to smash out my cardio in the morning when i still feel like sleeping

Bump: because i remember reading elsewhere that preworkout supplements inhibit certain cardiovascular systems, making them bad for cardio work. I cant remember if this was the caffiene, or perhaps another element of the preworkout mix. Anyone confirm this?
