What was the audio test that you guys are talking about? Sounds different than the standard hearing test?

The San Diego test had an audio portion where they played 5 radio dispatches and made you answer questions on each of them. It's supposed to test your memory and listening abilities. I've never taken a test with anything like it before. Not really hard, just different.

Picture a 15-20 second audio clip. Not crystal clear at all they were playing a radio transmission. One of them kind of went like this...
"Engine 23 on scene at 1223. We are on scene of a small working fire requesting back up. Engine 32 is now on scene at 1232. Engine 23 will lay a line and enter through the south side entrance. Engine 32 will ventilate the structure via access from the north side. The time is now 1242 and engine 23 has found the seat of the fire. blah blah blah
What time did engine 32 arrive on scene?
From what direction did engine 23 make entry?
Sure its easy when you read it, but at the time the clip was going fast and was it was hard to keep track of all the facts. You were not allowed to take notes either. This wasnt exactly what was said but you get the idea. There were a lot of numbers that sounded the same and in my mind they blended together. Probably only managed to get three quarters of them right.I ask not for a lighter burden, I ask for broader shoulders

I have done a few audio tests. They are tricky as fuk! You just have to find a system to it. 23 1223 S, 32 1232 N. You have to filter out everything but #'s, times and direction. All 4 of the ones I have taken ask about them. Sometimes you get a question about assignments. I failed the first 2 I took, the 3rd I did better and feel like I aced the 4th. All in the system. Don't stress it too much brah. Your next one will be better, your 3rd you will ace (if you ever take that type again). Some of the video tests piss me off more than audio. Done 3 of them and I get into the video and forget to note details.
Now I am just waiting on my Mesa fire written test results to come back. Driving myself crazy... few more days and I should find out.

About to take my paramedic CBT after passing practicals...
Also starting a fire academy. Can anyone recommend a good flashlight? Spent like 3 hours looking and just more confused than ever. Obviously would like to get an extremely bright one, but ones approved for FF that are not right-angled only seem to go to about 120 lumens."Love Everyone" - Jesus

Bright as F***! I assume your looking for a helmet mounted light since you said no go on the right angled lights. I suggest a helmet light, right angle light and a spare light in your bunker pocket..... Flashlights come in handy

Yeah, I am a little late to the game for sure. I knew I was in trouble when I was doing my clinicals, and in a room of 10 doctors, I was the oldest one there!
I've owned/ran OmegaSportsSupplements.com for close to 10 years, but things have been tough the last few years and I need a safety net for me and my family."Love Everyone" - Jesus

http://www.ems1.com/cardiac-care/art...ay-save-lives/
Incredible stuff in this article.
"The treatment did not prevent heart attacks from occurring, but cut the likelihood of cardiac arrest by 50 percent over patients who did not get the shot. The risk of immediate death also dropped by 50 percent. The effects were visible over the month following the event as well, with patients given the shot 40 percent less likely to die or be hospitalized for heart failure than those who did not. In patients with a certain kind of heart attack in which a coronary artery becomes completely blocked, known as an ST-elevation heart attack, immediate GIK was associated with a 60 percent reduction in cardiac arrest or death."
A combination of glucose, insulin, and potassium (GIK) appears to be changing the game. I know that its too early to make any real conclusions, but those numbers are staggering. Its about time that the AHA and others involved in creating the national standard realized that their fukking drugs dont work.

Interesting...
Is anyone else's department using pre-hospital therapeutic hypothermia (Code ICE) for cardiac arrests? A year ago when my dept started using it there were only 100 or so EMS providers nationwide using it... in the past year our save % has gone up quite a bit.

My department doesnt use ICE, although the powers that be would definitely like to. The issue here is that none of the hospitals use it, so prehospital use of therapeutic hypothermia is considered a waste of time since the treatment cant continue after transfer of care.

I found this article about GIK which really makes it look like its not as awesome as i previously thought. The numbers in this study arent anywhere close to the ones in the article i posted yesterday.
http://jama.ama-assn.org/content/ear....2012.426.full
Yea most of the experienced people i ask say that Lido works much better, ive never used it in an ACS patient though so i dunno. We all know that EMS is driven by money so i wouldnt be surprised. Amio kinda sucks anyway since its needs to be pushed slowly, and if the vial gets dropped or shaken it gets foamy.
