Who needs defense funding and military power when we have the messiah and his "lets just be friends" attitude and cool video messages of weakness being pushed around out there. In a world where our enemies are aquiring nuclear power and strengthening their forces, we are gutting ours and and allwoing others the ability to surpass us in terms of technology prospects (aircrafts just being one aspect), all while presenting ourselves as naive and weak with this new joke in office. If you mean the osprey, it killed many marines. Those things crash. Marines hate them, but are ordered to board them anyway. I had stand in a memorial dress alphas ceremonia amoungs crying marines once.

Depends if they grind up the molds to make the parts. Bill clinton did that with the sea wolf class submarines after only making two of them. They are so cheap compared to the cost of all the bailouts. How about stimulus with military spending?

We seem to be spending money on everything else..Wouldnt this be a way for the goverment to stimulate the economy with american jobs and we'd actually get something back for our $$..Weve already handed AIG enough money to build all of the F-22s plus..What have we gotten back from them.

F-22 has stealth technology..It is know to be far more advanced then anything in the world current or projected..But I guess we should use that money to continue to bail out failed companies rather then preparing for the future

The page has been turned. UAVs are so successful that the days of manned fighters are numbered. I've heard top gun pilots saying that they are the last generation of fighter pilots. NPR last week was interviewing a "pilot" who was flying UAVs into Pakistan/Afghanistan from his chair in Nevada. All manned combat aircraft are going the way of the horse in land combat.

This is one of the greatest periods in the history of avaition warfare taking place. It gives the US a lot more power, a lot more bang for the buck, and a lot more options on the use of air power. We don't have to worry about pilots getting shot down/captured. It costs far far less, particularly with economies of scale, to send out fleets of combat aircraft. And the performance exceeds, widely, what a manned aircraft can endure and do.

It is also a HUGE psychological advantage. Already UAVs, undetected and unseen, are taking out terrorist leaders/units, and doing so without regard to borders. The US should make its own fatwahs and then use the UAVs to deliver on them. It should join up with the world court and take out Bashir in Sudan, just as it has been the other jihadi leaders in Paki and Yemen, etc.. (Even Barak Obama isn't shy about using them, a lot, to cross borders and kill jihadis. Wait until someone less liberal becomes commnader in chief in a few years.)

All the mullahs/ayatollahs/etc., who call for the destruction of non-muslims, jews, US, etc., and have their speeches and names up on Al-Jazeerah TV, should consider themselves on notice and in the targeting sights!!!!!

That's a PROPOSED budget, not the final draft. Gates wants to restructure. He says there's a good chance it'll pass and they're preparing for that - but for now, production continues.

not really, most battles nowdays are very limited w/out ever using ICBMs, because all these super powers, US, RUSSIA, CHINA, all have ICBMs, their conflict are resolved locally w/out touching mainland

point being, there is no need for a massive, technologically advanced air fleet at this point in time. if the political situation changes, then just make more planes. no need to waste billions of dollars on planes that have no use.
