I remember watching Kevin Levrone give an interview where he said that, during the off-season, he was around 220 lbs as he felt far more comfortable at that weight. Then in the lead up to competition he would shoot up to the 245 lbs range. How the hell does that work? It goes against all logic, surely?
How do you build muscle in the off-season when you weigh *less* than what you do in on stage? I'm guessing this has a lot to do with cell tech?
He also said Lee Haney did it, btw. Anyone got any input?

Bodybuilders who "grow into" shows, how exactly does that work?

Stealth has got it right.
He was more comfortable offseason since his muscles was not in the way. For those who plan on getting big, make sure you get a comfortable bed that you can sink into or you will have to find certain new positions to sleep as you get bigger. It was annoying having my arms fall asleep if I slept in my favorite position. It gets annoying and that is just one aspect.

There's certain sups they add during prep to help them grow and burn fat at the same time.
These sups are heavy on the liver etc so they are not taken throughout the year
Phil has the luxury of only needing to compete in one show so he only has to have to run these sups onceLast edited by hzx; 10-03-2014 at 09:02 PM.

Oh you mean STEROIDS.
Most pros arent growing into shows in any significant way anymore since most are not coming off (at least not all the way) during their offseason. Adding more compounds into the mix during a prep allows some to build muscle while getting leaner (particularly those who respond really well to aas) but since many dont come off during the offseason theyre simply using aas to help them retain muscle during heavy dieting/cardio.
And even the ones who ARE growing into a show ARENT going from 200 to a contest ready 220, its more like going from 220 to a contest ready 210

Discussion of illegal substances is agains the rules on these forums that's why I said supplements
And yes they take some certain supplements year around but they also add more into their contest prep to help them grow and burn fat simultaneously . And yes they he does add a significant amount of mass during contest prep.
I could explain in detail but I'd get bannedyou mad because i'm right?

This would be quit common with amateur bodybuilders, who have side-jobs and cant dedicate their whole time solely to bodybuilding.I have a friend who worked as welder, and does bodybuilding and regularly competes at NPC. He would literally grow into the show. Because during the off season he would hit the gym twice a week maybe even twice a month. But during 2 month before tournament he would hit the gym 6 times a week and would rigorously follow a diet. So indeed he would be big during the show. I am not sure weather this is possible with pro's though
