    Spring cleaning and organizing

I’ve been working on my home gym upgrades when I can , new stereo etc, but my basement is such a disgrace that I had to start building shelves and sorting stuff out , as I never seem to be able to find my tools .
Cleaned up my server rack , and I added 3 of those magnetic bars to hold tools beside it . I didn’t like having my side cutters etc on the magnetic holders, so broke down and purchased a tool box from crappy tire . Anyways it’s miller time , here’s a few pics as things progress

    Beginning of server rack

    Next phase

    Almost done

thing is fukking huge. I plan to do a rack, but keep it within the floor joists. I'll run all my wiring in the basement walls (unfinished basement that I plan to stud out and finish eventually) and then up through the walls.

I’m not big on wireless , so I hardwire everything I possibly can . I needed a switch with a lot of ports , as I’m running 3 cat6 cables to my home theatre alone .
I have 2 network receivers, and a dedicated music server for the gym . I rip all my CD’s to WAV at 44,100 in order to minimize any sound quality issues .
Even the newest cable portholes have Ethernet ports , so instead of going wireless there hardwired also .
Not big on wireless cameras , so they are all hardwired

That’s the crazy part , it seems like there’s endless chit gathering everywhere . I bought a bunch of bins and labeled them to help a bit . Threw away a lot of chit also .

It’s bigger than necessary. We discarded all the 6’ racks at work , as they were all upgraded to the 7’ standard , so I brought one home.
But I’ve added a UPS , plus a power conditioner that you see at the bottom of the rack that’s for the home theatre system in the living room, so it’s getting used

Nice man, if you buy a Crestron processor you can all controll this with your phone (app) or buy a Crestron remote (TSR-310). But you know what you are doing

Here’s a pic of the AP in the living room ( access point ) . I built a shelf and mounted it under it , as I didn’t really want to look at the AP on the ceiling . Did a wifi test , and the speeds do not seem to be affected by the lower height of the installation.
Not sure if it’s killing the plant , but snake plants aren’t very needy , and some leaves are turning brown .
Yes I water it once a month

Sorry for the confusion, but this is not a server, but a rack that’s typically used for servers . I normally call it a network rack , as that’s pretty much what it is in this situation

    Mirin the upgrade brah.

A couple of dumb questions but here goes: if you have coax throughout your house in the walls, how do you go about replacing that with Cat6. Is there an easy way to thread it through? And also, you say you want everything hard wired but later in this thread you're talking about your wireless AP. My house isn't that big, but for some reason the new router I bought can't give enough signal strength and I just got fiber installed, so thinking hard wiring is probably the way to go to max out speeds. Appreciate your advice.

I use an iPad daily , so that’s the reason for wiresless . I also use my iPad on my deck to accesss the network receiver in the garage . I have a MacBook Pro in my living room at the moment , and use it wirelessly for now . I’m building a computer room with two corner desk work stations , so I have no intention of tearing my gym’s ceiling apart once again to run cat6 to the MacBook , as its location is temporary. (I hope)

As for rewiring , I am lucky as the basement is unfinished. The gym does have false ceiling , so if I have to I can take it apart . I couldn’t use my RG6 as drawstring in the walls unfortunately, as they were fastened with clips and screws .
I pretty much had to do a lot of fishing in the walls

Temp setup in the living room

I know. The longer you live in one place the more chit you accumulate.

I haven't moved in 18 years soooo this is going to be fun to move out soon.

With all that high dollar equipment, I'd invest in a Surgex (Advanced Series Mode Surge Protection) unit to be the 1st line of defense from the wall outlet, your UPS would plug into that. Sell the Monster Power unit (I used to own a few of these, they're junk compared to other, non-hype driven products), a real power spike/surge would toast that and send energy to your ground which will backfeed into your equipment grounds and neutral and potentially damage/destroy it. Not sure if that Monster unit you have there has AVR, but I've never found AVR necessary unless you live where there's significantly unstable voltage in your area.

Make sure the Surgex unit says "Advanced" series mode on it specifically, because that is an updated technology (likely overkill, but I like overkill). If you want to add another serious layer of protection you can add an Environmental Potentials EP-2050EE or EP-2000 to your main service entrance panel. The value of that is it will protect everything in your entire house including 240v circuits like your water heater, dryer, electric stove. They are very expensive, the latter unit at even pre-inflation prices was already at $2,000.00. I have on on my house, and Surgex power conditioners on everything in my house: fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, desktop, laptop, router, modem, external drives, monitors, TV, UHD player, Roku, phones. They do not divert surge energy to ground, they cancel it in the magnetic domain. The service panel unit works differently and converts damaging electrical energy into thermal energy and is dissipated via internal heatsinks. Nothing protects against a direct lightning strike, and that's not the idea, a *nearby* strike can wipe out everything in your house, or a pole transformer failure.

Here's a video of EP's technology. And btw, these are lightyears beyond the cheap SIEMENS, EATON, or Square D units you can buy for around $200 or less at big box stores or Amazon.

"The reason we are being murdered with genetic altering drugs is its slow acting and it causes your body to malfunction and destroy itself so there is a "plausible deniability" factor. Unlike most poisons which leave more evidence of being the direct cause of death."
