yeah thats the internet vs real life, even if someone you hung out with was offended, most people won't talk chit in IRL, and I'd bet most of the people who obsess over internet opinions don't really have friends in real life, so they flock to places they agree with
reddit would get butthurt about a lot of opinions posted on here, and the misc gets butthurt about opinions they disagree with.
Its just people trying to fit in and be accepted
