Sony’s breakout hit, Helldivers 2, has likely sold more than 8 million copies since its release last month, a market analyst has said.

That’s according to TD Cowen analyst Doug Creutz, who wrote in a note this week (via Bloomberg) that this figure is likely growing every week. “We believe the game has performed well ahead of expectations,” he said.

Sony has not released official sales figures for the co-op shooter, but Helldivers 2 has regularly exceeded 430,000 concurrent players on Steam, per SteamDB.

In the UK, we know Helldivers was the best-selling game in February, thanks to GSD data published on GamesIndustry.biz. Bucking the trend, the Sony-published shooter saw its sales grow each week after its release on February 8.

The PS5 version of Helldivers 2 accounted for 57% of its sales in the UK last month, with the remainder coming on PC.

The game’s breakout success has led to speculation that its developer, Stockholm-based Arrowhead Game Studio, could be acquired by PlayStation – something the studio itself has denied.

Having resolved the server issues that players had been facing since the game’s release last month, CEO Johan Pilestedt recently said the studio can now switch its attention to improving the title and working on new content.

“Now we have time to focus on improvements to the title and resume our original plan,” he said. “Many exciting things upcoming.”

It only runs at 1080p on PS5. Since I was the among the first to know about the PS5 pro, I decided I'll wait and get it on that.

PS5 pro is not happening

PS5 pro is just a rumor, there has been no confirmation of one in any way and I highly doubt it's happening. There will only be a slim version that I think will be inferior. I think the pro is being skipped and the PS6 will launch in 2028.

It seems the devs are really fuking cool, with their interactions with the fans and scrambling hard to get cool new events underway to get the fanbase excited. I'll definitely be picking this up sometime. Feels great to support companies like this.

I would not recommend waiting to get this game because it's a prime example of legit gaming fomo. By the time you play the population will dwindle and everyone you queue with will be high level and wanting to boot you from the game for being low level. Being matched with high levels as a low level sucks kinda.

Great game but kinda momentum based for me personally. My friends moved on and I'm already bored of the solo queue. Good fun tho, don't wait, get in there and spread democracy ASAP.

I've heard some streamers I follow say this. They enjoyed it alot for a solid X hours but eventually it got repetitive and they moved on. I wonder what they can do in this style of game that fixes that.

An MP game I am super hyped for is the only type of game I would ever buy these days. Anything single player I can't just wait for it to turn on subscription. Even Ghost of Tsuchima, I'll play the hell out of Legens I am sure, but it's not the type of MP you need to experience from day one of it's existence to get the most out of it.

With that said, Helldivers isn't my type of game, but the population will greatly influx with new players when it does hit PS+. And since it's more co-op than vs (right?) there is not nearly as much of a being behind the curve annoyance as there would be for say Apex, Fortnite, PUBG, Warzone, etc, jumping into those games late would just be brutal.

If you play on a lower difficultly like 5-6 or less no one is gonna care if you’re a lower level

Game is fun, although my playing got derailed by Unicorn Overlord.

If it matters, I play it on a potato (Steam Deck, handheld) on very low settings and have fun with it. I'm not super into AAA graphics, 4K, 90FPS, although I do like something not to skip or stutter.

My main complaint right now is I've never played a game in my life that I get disconnected from as much as this one...It's literally like every 2-3 missions I get a disconnect. It's annoying as fk.
