A recently resurfaced electric vehicle study has revealed that EVs could be worse for the environment than regular gas-powered cars, contradicting arguments made by climate experts in the Biden administration.
The study, which was originally published by Emission Analytics in 2022 but resurfaced in a Wall Street Journal op-ed on Sunday, indicated that tires and brakes on electric vehicles release 1,850 times more particle pollution than modern tailpipes, which use exhaust filters.
Electric vehicles are often heavier than regular gas-powered cars due to the weight of their engines, which can reach 1,850 pounds. The heavier engines place extra weight on the tires and cause them to wear out faster, according to the study. A 1,100-pound engine can cause more than 400 times the emissions as direct exhaust emissions.
Particle pollution from tires is the biggest contributor to vehicle-related emissions.
The study throws a kink in the Biden administration’s argument that electric vehicles produce “zero emissions” and therefore are better for the environment. The administration is trying to cut down on how many gas-powered cars there are by mandating that two-thirds of all new cars in America be electric by 2032.
California lawmakers also have inaccurately claimed the cars produce zero emissions because the California air agency uses a model that claims electric and gas vehicles have the same amount of tire wear, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The California Air Resources Board reiterated its claims after the public noted the error, stating that there were ways for EV manufacturers to lighten the vehicles, including by reducing the weight of other parts of the cars. However, the agency did not give any examples of where the weight reductions could occur.

Not to mention most manufacturers EV's are just sitting on the lot unable to sell. This hoax of ending fossil fuel engine production in the next few years is coming to an end sooner rather than later. Manufacturers and Dealerships are losing their ass paying endless flooring costs on EV's that most people have no interest in buying and they are way too expensive even adding in the subsidies from the govt...

Idgaf / things are powerful as fuk- fast - and find to drive.
The Tesla cyber truck will outrun a porch 911
They are horrible for the environment though. It would be nice if they can fix that one day.“A society that puts equality before freedom will get neither. A society that puts freedom before equality will get a high degree of both.”

Not sure how full EV brakes work but on Hybrids, the brakes last twice as long.
Edit: Evs use the same fooking braking system as ICE and generates less wear and tear on the tires and brakes because they have regen braking.

That's not even including the toxic waste issue that dead EV batteries present. It's going to become a massive issue for the environment as more and more of these things hit the roads. They already make a big deal about e-waste from battery powered electronics, and an EV probably has thousands of times the impact.

mf's talking about excess tire wear
meanwhile nearly the entire world except america and europe are throwing their garbage straight into the river lmfao.
ya know i learned today after looking that up, is that the 1973 gas crisis was because of... america's support for the terrorist nation of Israel.
just like 9/11
lmfao. its always them, literally everything. the global warming hoax too.
these people have ruined America. 100%

I think if you want to take EVs at face value and be idealistic about them then you have to hope the plan is that as they get more and more main stream they will also get more and more efficient.
What we’re getting right now isn’t the final form, but the only way for them to advance is to be adopted by the mainstream.
Or it’s all a scam and we’re retards

Yep, that's the beauty of ICE powered vehicles. They don't need tyres or brakes.
FTR I don't like EVs, but this is a shytty argument as to why they're worse than normal cars.GO LOCAL SPORTSBALL TEAM

EVs will make sense when the batteries aren't using graphite, and they aren't depending on lithium. Solid state that are either graphene or sodium based batteries are what's needed for faster charging, longer range, and being 99% safer in terms of fire hazard. Until those are mass manufactured EVs are a terrible idea if you're pushing an environmental/emissions agenda for them.
Solid state also vastly reduces the weight of the batteries, thus would eliminate the factors of higher pollution mentioned in the article. Toyota's supposed to have them in consumer ready vehicles in ~2-3 years. The fact that it's Toyota on the forefront of said technology is an added bonus.Light weight! Light weight baby!!!!

Dont think that's what he meant....
Regen braking itself helps slow the car a certain amount along with the brakes. Hence...less wear.
Article is potato though and im not even an EV guy. It's basically just saying braking systems (on all cars) produces as much of a problem as modern exhaust systems. It's just saying brake dust is now the concern, not exhaust gas. An EV still has traditional friction brakes, which are just as "detrimental" to the environment through comparison to modern exhaust, so you just effectively removed the exhaust output but still have the brake problem.
It's just comparing.Last edited by twovalvekid; 03-07-2024 at 09:31 AM.
