On a srs note, I feel bad for people losing their jobs. When a company loses a worker, the show goes on but when a worker loses a job, it can really suck for them. However it's important to have diverse job skills and strong skills that not many have.

In 2020 we had a Hershey's warehouse/office space by my work that shut down. Everyone came into work and were told they were laid off and to clean out their stuff.

I remember a guy in a shirt and tie walking up to out door, me opening it and him asking if we had any job openings. We were slow right before covid (we took off to the moon during that time) so I kind of felt bad telling him no after he told me what happened.

I do 95% of my work from home.

They're being given severance because that's what happens when people are laid off. It's a lot cheaper than keeping these useless employees around for another year.
