$20 socks.
Specifically, Merino wool socks made by Darn Tough sock company in Vermont.
These socks are indescribably comfortable in both summer and winter. They are wool, so they still have a solid R-value even when moderately wet. Also, Merino wool is antibacterial and antimicrobial, so you can wear these socks for a week straight and they will not stink.
But most importantly, they have a lifetime guarantee that is legit. Not that your socks are going to life last a lifetime, but when they do wear out, ship them back to the company and they will send you a replacement pair for free no questions asked.
If the idea of $20 socks seems silly to you, I challenge you to buy one pair and wear them when it's cold.

100%
I have been wearing them for years, any serious hiker knows about them. They are very popular on AT, CDT and PCT trails.
The warranty is bullet proof, I had to exchange two pairs out of 8 that I have and I have owned them for over 15 years. As an avid hiker, I bought them as soon as I heard about them and was not disappointed.
Many different styles since my purchase, something for everyone.

Sounds like a pharmamarketer thread from what I can remember. Love these higher quality fabrics so might try. Got myself some merino and cashmir sweathers these last couple of years and love em (but crazy prices). A cheaper alternative might be bamboo socks - got some and they are super soft and has a bit of that antibacterial effect as well I believe.

In on epic sock thread. I endured the Winter 2 years ago here at my lake home that got under 10 degrees in a freak Winter and in the teens for 2 weeks. That is nothing for the Mountain Man, but down here, we are not prepared.
Good socks, especially for Winter, make the difference between comfortable and miserable.Helping one person may not change the world, but it could change the world for one person.

100 pairs of socks?
3 riding lawn mowers
100's of pieces of gym equipment
What else do you collect? Some may call it hoarding but not me LOL..
I am going to show the Missus this thread on your collection, she says that I have Tilley hat issues lol
Socks are important for the cold, but good boots are importanter. (yeah it’s a word. I just said it)
NAT'S R920 Ultra Light Winter Boots (1.2lbs) Up to -85°C/-121°F - Unisex, 400g Primaloft® Insulated Foam Liner & 100% Waterproof EVA Bottom
NAT'S 1530 Winter Hunting Boots for Men - Insulated Mud Boots for Men Up to -70°C / -94°F - EVA Boots, Ultralight (1.2 lbs), 100% Waterproof, with Removable Liners
These babies will run you a few hundred a pair but are unbeatable in cold temperatures and they are lighter than most running shoes, paired with some DTS are just plain amazing. I have spent many deep subzero days sitting still on 4 feet of ice in both these boots and been trekking in them at -35F and below never had an issue..
Good footwear is important in every season. An old timer told me many years ago that for the most part there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear.Air Force Veteran 1976 - 1999 - Cannabis Enthusiast since the 1960's

used to wear govt issue wool socks and long johns in the field in the Navy.
Loved the wool."To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda
