The bugs were bad, but those could always be fixed. The problem is Rockstar has us spoiled. Red Dead Redemeption 2 NPC lived like actual human beings with day to day lives. Meanwhile Cyberpunk felt dead and the patch didn't improve NPC that much more. There was no activies outside of maybe drinking at bars.
This just isn't fair. You can't compete with this experience.
Overall I'd give Cyberpunk a 7.5/10. It would be a 9 if the city felt living and breathing with activities to do.

The real problem with Cyberpunk 2077 was the dead city.

Agree. I liked the game. But yea, it wasn’t up to the level other games are in that aspect. Feels like they missed the mark on what could’ve been a masterpiece. The setting/world it took place in had crazy potential to be mind blowing but they just didn’t quite get there. Wished they’d spent even more time on it and really done it justice tbh. There were so many people screaming at them for taking as long as they did though, it’s part of the reason we got what we got.

That and the story being a complete borefest
Repetitive (go here, shoot a bunch of people, collect something, repeat)
stupid unnecessary chit that would have taken up a lot of wasted time developing like the braindances, seriously who the fuk thought that would be a good idea?
The supercars of the future drive 50mph top speed and handle awfully
The hand to hand combat felt terrible
The city itself was its big scoring points, it looked incredible, that and cool weapons. Other than that I struggle to find what was actually good about this game.

Agreed.
They built an incredible city that's almost to scale and it's dripping with atmosphere, but look past the curtain and there's absolutely nothing else to do and everything implemented was either half-assed or all lies from the marketing department. "The most advanced open world to date" was such a joke.
If they weren't marketing this game to be some sort of GTA killer I'd prolly be less harsh on them, but clearly the scope and ambition was too big for CDPR. You can probably see it in the begining with all that montage with Eddie or w/e his name was, clearly that was a chit ton of cut-content from the game because I assumed if you spent more time with Eddie, then his death would hit you a lot harder, but he pretty much dies an hour or two into the game making the whole impact of it pointless because you never really got to spend anytime with him in the first place.
The worst offender was probably taking it from being an "RPG" game that they promised to give us and instead then started marketing it as an action/adventure lol with rpg lite elements.
I mean they still gave us a really good game, but lord only knows how butchered it really was.Sig line can't be a novel

The scope and ambition wasn't too big for CDPR. They had impatient board members that didn't want to let them continue delaying the game. You people really think they just wanted to take out and/or exclude all the features and chit they said would be in the game for a year prior to launch? CDPR was never, ever known as a bait and switch studio...why the fk would they suddenly want to do that for this one game and ruin their reputation as one of the best studios ever?
They had to start axing things left and right to make impatient investors happy who wanted the game to come out ASAP. It's nothing more than that. If they had another year, the game would have been launched in the fantastic, highly patched condition it is now, plus a whooole lot more.Last edited by R3L3NTL3SS; 12-13-2022 at 04:37 AM.

These. Oh God I fell asleep during those brain dance sections. I had successfully deleted them from my brain and this guy had to remind me.
OP I wish the city was more dynamic with things to do and explore, I remember watching the trailer and hearing promises and being in awe. But that's not the only or biggest issues imo. The biggest issue was the game and story was just so fking bland and boring. The brain dances, the boring story and side missions, boring gameplay, the walking and talking simulator sections where you spend 15 mins doing nothing but watching cutscenes and walking. Fk me, I would rather get hooked square in the gabber than playing that game again.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Trailer release date: 9 years ago

Today I learned that 9 years = ASAP.
It's nothing more than that. If they had another year, the game would have been launched in the fantastic, highly patched condition it is now, plus a whooole lot more.
But of course, being a cybercuck we can go back to blaming those darned investors.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Amazed at how many people are complaining about the story and characters. It was easily the strongest and most compelling part of the game for me.
The story and lore was written almost 35 years ago, before most of us were born.
It seems like there is just a tonne of lore and backstory for a single-player game that took the better part of 10 years to release.

So you're telling me that the game dev's didnt intentionally hold back footage of last gen consoles? that they only allowed reviewers curated b-roll footage to be put into their review videos even for the glorious master race pc people on their 3080s? that's about as shady and untruthful you can be about the state of your game. Are you telling me that this game is the "most advanced open world to date"? even next to something like RDR2?
Yes you can blame the investors for the whole situation, but it takes two to tango. The dev's straight up lied when asking about how the console versions and overall performance of the game was and said it was running "well".
And no, an year didnt save this game ... It took TWO years for them to put it in a decent working shape and that's just one example of how CDPR fukked up with the scope and ambition of this game. This whole debacle is why they decided to drop the Red Engine and move on to Unreal because it was clear the Red Engine couldn't cope with the initial scope and ambitions for the game.
Yes no studio wants to intentionally ruin their reputation, but CDPR did exactly that ... brb stock tanked, brb public apology, brb refund fiasco, brb free witcher 3 upgrade ... every step they've taken post cyberpunk is to repair the damage that's been done to their stellar reputation prior to this games release.
I lvoe CDPR just much as anyone and I'm day one for all their games, but you really need to take off those rose tinted glasses in regards to this game.Sig line can't be a novel

To be fair a huge amount of devs quit after the game’s release. In some perfect world scenario where management didn’t suck and the devs stayed, another year would have been enough time to add quite a lot
Seems like a skeleton crew has been working in the game since launchMS, Computer Science

Sure but having the all the cybercucks as alpha testers for them helped a fukton in finding out which bugs existed and needed to be addressed. Through this they also realised they needed to drop old gen which streamlined their work considerably. And it still took 2 years to make it playable.

it did have a very 'we bit off more than we could chew' feel to it throughout
it's 2 years later and the wanted/police system/car chases are still not fixed (although said to be in the next patch)
it'll be interesting/telling to see how witcher 4 goes, that is a beloved franchise and the last game was great
so if w4 ends up being a disaster it'll be safe to say a lot of the devs did pack up and leave

Bruh it took two years because a fraction of the studio was working on the game after it released.
Another year of the ENTIRE studio working on the game would have gone a loooong fking way. Board members got to the point that they said no more. Release immediately. So features, gameplay, etc started getting cut out to rush it to market with bugs and optimization issues that weren’t able to be worked out.

Yeah well maybe get a halfway competent dev and management team and accomplish what you announce instead of bullschitting people for years - like that 2018 demo - and just banking on the tremendous goodwill you gained from TW3.
Let's also not forget that initially they tried pushing the "it's the evil gamers' fault, they were harassing us to release it finally so we did" angle.
-

And that's the board members fault how?
Dev's are given + make a project timeline and budget to complete the game. The game went through multiple delays, even one like a month out of release when the game had already gone gone gold - That's completely unheard of and its clear evidence that CDPR bit off more than they could chew and absolutely fkked up the scope and ambition of the game. They had like what, 7 or so + years to get it right .. Millions given in subsidies for development, all that talent+manpower and they still messed it all up.
I put the majority of the blame squarely at CDPR's feet.
They are still a goated studio and will continue to make amazing games, and I'm sure they learnt a lot from Cyberpunk's mistake.
As for the skeleton crew working on the game, I'm not surprised, this game has problems down at like a grassroots level in terms of coding or some chit lmao, so they did the best they could to try salvage it and it's still not the best when it comes to open world simulation. It's better for them to start all over again with Cyberpunk 2 running on UE5 where they can have the tools and help from Epic to get the game working like how they envision it.Sig line can't be a novel

look they wanted to make a cyberpunk GTA style game essentially. they even wanted multiplayer
so they delayed the game time and time again and this was BEFORE the next gen consoles were released...
so imagine if it wasn't delayed at all.. current gen console owners would have just gotten that game only lol, 15 fps for $60 lol
so yeah, they were in over their heads. it was almost like they had a meeting of what they should add to the game and everyone said ideas like
" Multiplayer!, AI with full lives the user can see!, campaign mode where every decision gives a different ending! Wanted system with corrupt police! Weather system! Mod Your Cars and Weapons! "
then they used all these ideas and were like lets tell EVERYONE these brainstormed ideas even though we didn't code it into the game!!!!*** Free Thinker Crew ***
