I got some dumbbells and I find myself getting stronger. I don't know how strong I can get
I been training at home for about 4 months and don't plan to go to a gym. The problem is lack of dumbbells for each body part. I don't have much space, so not planning to use a barbells. Still able to hit most muscles groups without a barbell.
I'm planning to get adjustable dumbbells. I'm wondering is 25kg adjustable enough or would I run into more problems down the line.
How much weight, should I aim for, if I get a nuobell or powerblocks? What are your views on this?

I would have gotten IronMasters but they have unavailable for over a year and no signs of it getting better. The Powerblocks are great, and the quick adjustment is an awesome feature. The knock I'd have on Iron Masters is having to manually change plates all the times.
I have have Powerblock EXP to 90 and will likely just buy a pair of standard 100s and 120s at some point. The Powerblock EXP to 90lbs is going to be good for most poeple.6'1 - 240lbs

I have Bowflex 90's. I had some issues with them early on but some epoxy and a couple penny nails solved them. If I had to do it all over again, I'd buy Powerblocks.

25 kg is the minimum to consider. I would not consider any other adjustable dumbbells other than PowerBlocks and IronMasters. Cheaper adjustable DBs often have plastic parts subject to failure. Then you just have useless junk.
I have three sets of IronMasters (2 at 75 lbs, 1 set at 50) and one set of Powerblocks 90. I have them set at different weights and don't normally change the weight during a workout. I do change the weight before working out to match what I plan on doing. (I bought them all used, before the pandemic, so they did not cost that much.)
If I were to have only one, I would get Powerblocks. It is much easier and faster to change the weight between exercises (even between sets of the same exercise). For example, I can do drop sets with the Powerblocks. I can't do that with only one set of IronMasters.O─O York Barbell Crew #53 O─O

I wish I read the whole thread. I brought some cheap ATIVAFIT Adjustable Dumbbell, 25 kgs. They don't sell 32 kgs in the UK. I couldn't resist the price. It was $286 for 2 including shipping. If it breaks, it breaks. If it doesn't, then I will sell it. In future, I will have to get power blocks instead. It probably set me back $1,800 or slightly more but worth the investment. I also need a bench press and a Pull up/dip stand. My new hobbie lol.
I might need to make a new thread again about powerblocks, when the time comes. I heard some are not adjustable and they are doing throught some law suit. Some are adjustable and you can just keep adding and buying more.
Thanks for the advice everyone

This is probably not what you're looking for but, if you already have plates, adjustable dumbbell handles like this cost less than $40 and the screw on collars make them relatively safe.

My recommendation is POWERBLOCK 90 lb Sport EXPs.
I know people say they have no trouble changing poundages with IRONMASTERS, but that's like saying you have no trouble changing poundages with standard spinlock dumbbells.
Buy a pair of loadable kettlebell handles and a lot of 1" hole pancake plates for anything over 180 lbs. These guys load to 170 lbs each with 14" bars.

I have the ironmasters w/120lb kit and really like them. Sure you have to change the plates-but I need the traditional feel of a dumbbell. I tried the power blocks- and they just weren't for me. But it does suck that they never seem to be available now.
Con: is that lengthwise they can get a bit longer in heavier increments compared to a traditional dumbells of equal weight.

Thanks man
Got my ativafit adjustable today. Looks good. Hope it last long. Even though I have adjustables, it's good to have the normal dumbbells as well
As soon as I got them, they bumped up the price up by $57 each adjustable dumbbell. I think they are split testing to see how much they can get on amazon lol I got a third or a quarter of the price heheheLast edited by ken979; 11-11-2021 at 11:57 AM. Reason: missed out info

I have seen some problems reported with the urethane Powerblocks the past few years. Evidently the steel plates don't extend out to where the bolts attach, so if you store them in hot and humid environments the urethane can crack and the plates break off. There's a class action lawsuit related to this.
My U-90s are about 10 years old. I keep them in a finished heated/air-conditioned/dehumidified basement, and so far they still seem fine. You can always go with the steel USA Elites, and I like that those are made in the US, but that style is more likely to bend or break if dropped. They also used to offer a lifetime warranty but I can't even find the warranty terms on their website anymore.
I have been a big advocate of Powerblocks for a long time but I don't know what I'd buy today. They are probably still the most durable and longest lasting of the quick change dumbbells since ones like MX and Nuobell use plastic mechanisms, but I don't think they are still the clear choice they once were.
I like the Ironmasters too, I just don't consider them to really be quick change. I used to use spin locks and the Ironmasters, while much better quality, really aren't that much faster or easier to change.

my iron masters still going strong no issues. The one flaw i would think is the longer inner handle area. I understand why its that way design wise. I wish they made something like the heavy handles but without modifying the weight as much. I like to use the lighter weights performing some shoulder rehab work.
