Typical BB lol
I think now I feel better about Stid we have many holes in the team and trading down made sense to them - We are going into 2020 with Stid/Hoyer under the center.
Andrew... I hope he does the best for his health whatever that is.

I love the way the drafts going. The player BB wanted was either Kmet or Baun. One of them is going to be available at 37 & you grab an additional early 3rd round pick for it.
Stidham, BB could have easily drafted Love if he wanted to. He's confident with what he's got in Stidham.
This is definitely BB giving the reigns to Stidham. That being said, Fromm as a 3rd round comp pick is just something that makes sense.
I like this offense a lot more with a solid big blocking TE that can help in the run game. Get Sony back to 2018 level & the team will flourish.

I forgot Fromm declared. I think Fromm could be good. I liked watching him.

How do you figure that? Just because mock drafts and "experts" were saying we liked Love doesn't mean the Patriots actually did. Love was a 2nd round prospect, why would the Patriots waste their first round pick on a 2nd round player?
I like the move to trade out of the first. We get way more value from the 2nd and 3rd round picks then we would have gotten using our 1st.
That being said, I agree with you on wanting to take Kmet in the 2nd. We still have so many picks and Caserio said with all those picks they have the option to move around in the draft if they want to...which to me means they have their eyes on a few players in these next rounds that they want.
People are talking about LB help or safety help, but I don't know if I see us drafting one of those positions today. I could still see us taking a QB sooner than later. There are still a number of QBs out there that could make an impact for us right away.
I saw a potential trade of Thuney + 100th draft pick for Miami's 39th pick. We could take Kmet and then 2 picks later take a QB. I'd be pumped if we did that.New England Patriot

Would love for the Pats to get Hurts. Would help me continue my fandom (I only became Pats fan because of Brady).

I love the draft so far. The safety replaces Chung/Harmon. Think hitter like Chung but he can actually cover.
Bookend edge rusher
Linebacker who plays outside but can move inside, because he's stout against the run.
2 pass catching tight ends. Hernandez and Gronk. Unfortunately neither guy is a blocker.

After initial reactions of "what the fk Bill?!?" I actually like this draft so far. Based on the picks and how we moved in the draft, I think these were calculated moves and we got who we wanted at good value.
As a disclaimer, these players I don't know from watching, just learning about them from draft reports and player information about them.
Kyle Dugger...who? D2 player which makes you question his playing ability in the NFL. However, the he's very athletic and versatile, something BB loves. Highest vertical jump of all the backs in the draft, 2nd in broad jump among safeties, 4.49 speed (!), and the longest reach of all safeties in the draft. While he played at a D2 school, he was highly praised in the Senior Bowl against high level competition. He's seems like a great fit and a Patrick Chung 2.0. I think they liked this kid a lot because of his athleticism and speed. The AFC has a lot of speedy QBs and I think he can be used to try and neutralize them.
Josh Uche -- don't know a lot about him, but seems like another good fit and versatile player. I think I've seen him being compared to a Tedy Bruschi type player. Can play LB or a speed rusher. It was a need for team, so I have to trust Bill and say good pick.
Anfernee Jennings -- Alabama kid who probably comes highly recommended from Saban. Another type of player who seems like he will be a good fit. It's been a minute since we've had a good edge rusher. Not sure he'll see much of the field right away, but hopefully he can develop into a solid rusher.
Devin Asiasi -- not much experience, but watching his highlights and reading his draft analysis I'm pretty psyched about this pick. Big athletic kid with good speed and nice hands. I can see him being our Gronk replacement and playing a lot first year.
Dalton Keene -- another TE and one we traded up for. Very versatile player, good hands. Can play multiple positions which we all know Belichick loves.
On paper, these names might not be much, but I'm pretty excited. I hope they pan out for us.
All that being said, I think we are looking good going into the season. We have a few questions marks still, but this was a good draft. Our defense got stronger and we drafted two capable TEs that we desperately needed.
If Harry and Meyers develop well this season and our TEs play well, we will have a decent, capable offense.New England Patriot

More on Uche's pick: over the past 2 seasons, his 22.5 pressure % was the highest in the country. Yes, that means higher than Chase Young's.
Chase Winovich is excited to have him on the team and the OT that went #10 in this draft said Uche was the hardest guy to block that he faced.
Caserio said Patriots had 3 guys written down heading into round 2. They ended up getting 2 of them. I am curious who the 3rd was but we'll never know.New England Patriot

UDFA pick signings: QB, WR and WR so far.
Will Hastings, WR, is a former teammate of Stidham. 5'10" 175lb. Smaller and apparently a speedy and quick player. Pro Day he ran a 6.55 3 cone drill which comparing that to combine totals would have made that the fastest cone drill time of all wide outs in this years draft. 4.51 40 time to go with it. Looks like we might have drafted our Edelman successor.
QB J'Mar Smith out of Louisiana Tech. Not great collegiate numbers, but apparently showed progress his last season. He appears to be a dual threat QB. Can't imagine he'll battle for a starting job, but we have our new QB now.
Isaiah Zuber, WR. Didn't find anything on him.
EDIT: Looks like we have signed a number of other UDFA. We ain't messing around.Last edited by Tyler2106; 04-25-2020 at 05:40 PM.

I think any Patriots' fan should have an overwhelming amount of faith in Stid the kid. Belichick just got him one of his favorite targets from college in Hastings as an UDFA, a guy he had chemistry with. I think if Bill has the trust to go ahead and make a signing like that, it speaks to how highly he thinks of him.
Inb4 Hastings becomes a star & Stidham gets benched week 4.

Let's temper expectations on Hastings just because he was Stidham's favorite target. Their best season together Hastings only caught 26 passes, 525 yards and 4 TDs. Not bad numbers, but nothing to get excited about. That being said, based solely on his athletic ability and pro day stats, he could be a tough guy to cover in the slot. Hopefully, Edelman teaches him well.
Having said that, I agree that Patriot fans should have faith in Stidham AND our WR core. Something all the "experts" thought we needed was a QB and WR help. Belichick didn't draft any of those positions which says he likes what he sees in those guys.New England Patriot

My thoughts on the draft:
I love it. I assumed (correctly) that BB would try to build defense and specifically the front 7. I think he knows that the path to winning for the current team will be through a dominant defense.
I think we can clearly see that the Pats valued two traits over everything else: athleticism and versatility.
Duggar - Small school? Raw? Sure, but he's an athletic freak and plays like an alpha. Can return punts and be a gunner on special teams too.
Uche - Not a ton of experience/playing time? A bit undersized? Sure, but he's twitchy, bendy and can cover some.
Asiasi and Keene - Neither were terribly productive in college but they both have some of the best athletic traits in this TE class. Asiasi can block inline and Keene can play multiple roles from different alignments.
The NFL in 2020 is all about long SPEED and short area BURST. The Pats drafted A LOT of that stuff. It will be fun to watch some of these guys flying all over the field this year.
I also like the Jennings pick, as he's a high-floor technician that BB loves to have on the edge. Very stout against the run and can chip in 5-8 sacks per year.

Right there with you on those thoughts ^^^
Just need these kids to produce now. We also signed a number of interested UDFA. Even a 4th QB which I think is great. It's Stidham's job to lose and Belichick is putting as much pressure on him this off season as he can. Either he'll fold and lose the job or he'll step up like we hope.New England Patriot
