Hoping for my countryman Boonen to bring the cobblestone home, it's the last race in his career.

They were all riding fixed gears so he just let the cranks spin wildly as he coasted past everyone. This was obviously a descent lol

That's like telling me to stop eating cereal, I just find an alternative that's.. pretty much the same thing.

(In that case, I buy different cereal, lol)

Took the day off to enjoy a 75 degree Austin weather ride and make it out to the lake early.

I changed to a 11-32 cassette from 28 since ATX has a lot more punchy hills than my routes outside of NYC used too. Very common to hit 8-15% gradients here for .25-1 mile. NYC you could rack up elevation but generally longer hills at 4-5%. The hills are shorter here but more frequent and more steep. Big difference! Spun at 100 cadance up 4% gradiant and 85-90 up 12%. Spin to win. Also the 11-32 does work no problem with a standard size dura-ace rear derailleur, no issues requiring me to get the long-cage ultegra. Semi-Compact crankset up front.

It weighs 15.6lbs (without Wahoo) and is a 58cm and could still lose a pound if I wanted it to.

Just to head this off, yeah, I forgot to put it in the big ring and if I wanted a slammed stem I would have one. Thank you.

Dura Ace 9000 brakes are silver, yeah but the new 9100 are black. These are older and I'm not sure what I'm replacing them with.

It will be a month or so because after the Enve wheels the price of this build got out of control real fast lmao. And about the gatorskins, I run them on the back and GP4000II up front. I don't race I just ride as a serious hobby? Idk I have cycling pros (including a world champion) in the family and grew up around that mentality and it burned me out on bike riding. So I just train with serious riders and we part ways on race day. I just like riding my bike.

Cool - i had those same brakes on my bike before i upgraded. I run the Ultegra 6800s now.

I was just curious about the GatorSkins because I've heard they aren't the best for racing because the sidewall is very stiff which can cause you to lose traction on really tight cornering in crits vs. a softer tire that has a bit more flex to it.

Congrats on the build - ride the hell out of it.

I have 2 more gatorskins and 3 tubes arriving tomorrow.

Should I just leave the giant PR3 tyre on the front?

I got a feeling that the rear exploded due to a shoddy inflation on my behalf.

Finally. One of you guys posted your whip with the drop bar mirrors. What make were they? I want to order a set.

Also i am already checking strava to see segments of my routes. Nice to see things like 16th out of 200+ on a section this year.
Ride it like you just stole it.

Congrats on the build - ride the hell out of it.
Thank man! Yeah, gatorskins definitely are not a racing tire. The roads where I live are not very good and this tire setup is working very well at keeping me rolling and off the side of the road.

You can roll the dice as to whether it was a faulty tire or the strong possibility that it was dry-rot from being old. If you'd like to experiment with your front tire exploding at speed I would generally steer you in another direction. You have 2 new tires. Silly risk to take with literally no reward.

SkepticalOne is who has the bar ends. Look through his posts in the old thread, he wasn't terribly active the last month or so which should make it easy to track down.

I think these are the ones Skeptical has.

Regardless, I bought these and love them. Really nice to glance down and see if cars are approaching.

The best of the local coffee shops has opened a new location a few blocks from my work, it's the first shop I've ever seen those messenger style saddle racks at a place. Solid business move, the counter is right near the door and you can just sling your saddle over the bar, get a coffee and be like 3 ft away during the whole process.

POWERMETERS. What do you guys use, and what would you recommend? Any thoughts on Power Pod. I just discovered that brand today, but im kind of skeptical as to how accurate that system is.

    Don't dork out completely sir.

DC rainmaker does tons of reviews on power meters and other biking gadgets. He reviewed the PowerPods and they are surprisingly accurate. However personally I'd get a real power meter that measures strain with a gauge. For a little more you get a left only stages crank or even the Powertap P1 single sided pedals. However if budget is the number one concern, that PowerPod will be a good enough estimation.

Do it *******, you don't need to start with a $5000 bike. Best life change you'll ever make. Your wife may hate you tho.

Regarding mirrors, I don't think i'd trust them tbh.
