Yes genetics play a big role. I'm not trying to be rude but your glutes don't really look all that different in the 2 pics you posted. I think squats/leg press help give the butt that "lift" from the bottom but I believe isolation movements add a lot of thickness in the glutes which is contrary to popular belief. What I'm saying is really anecdotal though simply based on what I've seen.
