I know tons of guys over 40 that cant lift anymore, have herniated disc...hey even my dad cant at 56 years old
a guy I know who was a bodybuilder and a powerlifter here, cant even walk anymore and he is only 60
all Im saying, as a 29 years old guy, stay safe, think in the long term
you dont need to squat heavy or do deadlifts to get bigger...there is nothing alpha about lifting heavy weights lol, be smart about it

I recently stopped lifting heavy too. Was having pains in my shoulders and back. Not worth fuking up my joints just to impress a bunch of *******s on the internet.
Lifting is just a hobby for me anyway, not like I compete. As long as I can have a decent physique and strength level, I'm not too concerned.

been relatively the same size as my AVI, give or take some BF% for the last 5-6 years...aside from the obvious risk to long term aches and pains, I personally don't find lifting heavy fun and haven't for years. Its all about getting that pump, its like a drug.
The only place being strong and lifting heavy weight matters is in the gym, sh*t is not useful in outside the gym, been there, done that.
A lot of people will say that...but its not typically people that are in that age range. Theres literally no bodily reason that makes that true. If youv been training since you were 15-20 years old your not going to have been getting stronger and stronger over the 10-15 year period, unless youv made ****ty progress over a decade or more...or you become a cyclist. Also our hormone levels that actually help strength training and building muscle aren't at their peek anymore.Carb Mal-absorption, no breads, sugary snacks, rice, pasta...live off of 30-40g a day.

Can confirm. I'm 35, have a bulging disc in my neck that makes it painful to use heavy weight on any upper body exercise and a bunch of other nagging injuries I've accrued since I started lifting at 21. Safety and health is my main priority now, took a few years to admit to myself I cant go as hard as I used to.

I'd have to disagree entirely.
Although, I've suffered through numerous injuries during my lifting career, I still tend to lift heavy during a training cycle.
Keeps me strong, fast and able to keep up with my kids.Old, beat up and still lifting

I don't know that I agree. I think you can lift heavy as long as you are smart. I have had two shoulder surgeries and I lift with permanent nerve damage in my right hand. I try to train smart, but i enjoy pushing myself. I don't have any problems and am getting stronger. I just think you need to listen to your body. I mean I don't do a lot of dumbell work because of my hand, but I just hit a PR on bench of 135. While I have to use hooks to deadlift, my back is stronger than ever.

I have a lot of respect for you and guys who are even older and still lift heavy, but you know what Im trying to say
its all good until it happens...then comes the regret
talked to many docs because of my dad problem...they have all said lifting heavy is very dangerous and many end up paraplegicNI GALLINA NI BOSTERO, DEL ROJO HASTA LOS HUEVOS

I don't know his injuries and honestly don't care. Phil is about 215lbs and 79 years old. He trains 3 days a we and it keeps him mentally young, allows him to set goals and reach them.
Comes regret for who? FUK that...I'd rather do something that made me happy than spend my life being boring and ordinary.
I watch this nearly every morning before I train.

OP, you cant talk for everyone, will be 46 in Oct., frankly if you don't lift heavy go home. 3 time Michigan Raw Heavy Weight Power Lifting Champion and I do not lift in the Masters division. Lift with form and technique, I have had my issues with injury, but 99% of the time it is because I was foolish or did not warm up correctly. I lift at a college and most just believe I am part of the football team, age is only a number.
