That's not the case these days and many people use tats as a means of expressing a belief, honoring loved ones, or just as an artistic medium.

The issue most people are having with the studies is that words like "tendancies" and "associations" makes the latter feel grouped with the scum.
While I agree. Studies take a lot of people and the that gets grouped in a "bell", the middle its what the study is going to talk about (what happens the most), there will be deviations going way far right or way far left (and these are the ones you are talking about).

Honestly for me its a girls with nose piercings or belly piercing etc, hate that sht, such a turn off. I don't mind if a girl has a small tattoo somewhere that can't be seen, i've known some that had a tattoo but clothing covers them.

This! when all the kids thought it was cool to have gold chain loop earrings in middle school I opted not to get pierced. Im not against tats or piercing btw but most people do it for fad/trend. I do love art and am contemplating a nice piece on my ribs. Just gotta be sure its something I will like forever. Also gotta save some $$ good art is not cheap.

lol @ the tatted *******s getting angry at the truth.

Tattoos are for the weak minded sheep. Feel the rustling you goddam hipsters.
We have enslaved the rest of the animal creation, and have treated our distant cousins in fur and feathers so badly that beyond doubt, if they were able to formulate a religion, they would depict the Devil in human form.

People hang beautiful art on the walls of their homes that could be gone tomorrow. I put beautiful art in my skin that will be with me until I die (which could be tomorrow). Suckit.

    So deep.

We have enslaved the rest of the animal creation, and have treated our distant cousins in fur and feathers so badly that beyond doubt, if they were able to formulate a religion, they would depict the Devil in human form.

If studies made on 1991 are confirmed by studies made in 2012... No shiet have changed my nikka.
Dumfuk. All of the things cited are different theories. The ones I've cited are the ones from the past(how people perceived tattoos back then compared to now.) Even to my fob Asian parents, tattoos are an art form to them now. Ask them the same question one decade ago, they'll link it to gang activity and violence.

An overview of autopsy reports also revealed that persons with tattoos appear to die earlier than those without. A negative tattoo may suggest a predisposition to violent death, but is eclipsed by the presence of any tattoo (Carson 2014)
-What does this have to do with tattoos? Do they take health problems, diseases into considerations?

In students, tattooing is associated with risk-taking behaviors, including smoking and cannabis use (Heywood, 2012)
-Cannabis is also a lot more common now compared to before. There's thousands of potheads who don't have any tattoos at all(ton of my friends who have no tattoos toke up on the daily, more than tatted ones)

Being tattooed is associated with greater numbers of lifetime sexual partners (Heywood 2012), earlier sexual initiation, higher frequency of sexual intercourse and increased preference for oral sex (Nowosielski 2012). In adolescents, tattoos also correlate with the likelihood of having unprotected sex (Yen, 2012), but not in adults (Nowosielski 2012)
-Sex is becoming more common and not seen as anything "holy" or "rare". Look at the way 13 year old sloots dress now. Compare that to a 13 year old from back then, huge difference.

. Seven or more piercings, or intimate piercings, described higher risk behaviors and emotional distress (Owen 2013). In high school students, tattoos correlate with suicidal idealization, suicidal attempts, and depression (Yen 2012)
-This is merely an opinion. There are other things to take into consideration that they just claim out of their ass. Internet is a huge contribution to emotional distress
-What does tattoos have to do with depression? Other things to take into consideration, environmental factors, family, etc...

Even though something is cited, doesn't mean it's correct dumbfuk. These are merely theories, and the "studies" carried out are observed on a small population, and used to generalize the entire population.

notice how people with tattoos don't bring that **** up? They live and let live. People against tattoos can't shut the **** up about it. Same with homophobes, xcristians, mormons, etc. Seriously. Just live your life dogs and stop thinking about how others are living theirs. We all good.

Don't know if true or not. But i have no urge to get "tatted" so i'll leave it at that. I'll let everyone else in my generation get some kind of tattoo i'm okay being the 1 person without one

    THEODORE DALRYMPLE

    It Hurts, Therefore I Am

    Autumn 1995

The cause of criminality among the white population of England is perfectly obvious to any reasonably observant person, though criminologists have yet to notice it. This cause is the tattooing of the skin.

A slow-acting virus, like that of scrapie in sheep, is introduced into the human body via the tattooing needle and makes its way to the brain, where within a few years it causes the afflicted to steal cars, burgle houses, and assault people.

I first formulated my viral theory of criminality when I noticed that at least nine out of ten white English prisoners are tattooed, more than three or four times the proportion in the general population. The statistical association of crime with tattooing is stronger, I feel certain, than between crime and any other single factor, with the possible exception of smoking. Virtually all English criminals are smokers, a fact that sociologists have also unaccountably overlooked.

I bet the white prisoner population of England are more likely to be lifters than non prisoners too. Hehehe

Most weightlifters have BDD. Rudyrude proved that. Making a penis or height thread will prove that (guaranteed 10 pages+ of insecurity).

OP says body modifications = mental illness, so surely that means lifters have a mental illness? Just lol at lifting and looking down at guys with tattoos. Can't wait till I get my first one in the coming months hopefully.

Tattoos are for primitive societies. I see people walking around with piercing on their noses and stupid ugly tattoos like they belong on some tribe. Some of you need to wake up.

I find atheists to be more vocal and pushy than religious people.

Lol at these 'Studies'. You realize everyone is different and has their own lives/morals in which they stand by. Doing a study on a bunch of people with tattoos can be completely different to someone else.

A bit of ink on someones body wont change how they act as a person.
