    Feedback on workout

    Hello,
I am a 18 year old guy, 6' 7" at a lanky 177 pounds (most of which is bone) and I have been trying to improve my overall appearance and health. For the past three weeks, I have been swimming and doing some minor weightlifting to try and achieve this. My swim workout consists of a 500 meter warm up, 1000 meters of intensive exercises focused on different parts of my body and a 300 meter cool down followed by stretching and a sit in the hot tub. Weightlifting and strength consist of me doing powercleens with a 60 pound barbell, 100+ push-ups, and various ab/core exercises. After each workout I stretch and drink plenty of water and have a snack consisting of peanut butter and pretzels. My general diet is low in fat and has plenty of carbs and protein in it. I work out every other day, alternating swimming and strength. The thing is, it has been three weeks and I have seen no general improvement to my appearance or ability. my stamina has gone up a little, but these exercises are still the limit of what I can do. My strength and size have not been changed and I have actually lost a pound since I started working out. I'm baffled as to why nothing is improving. I have a deficiency in my fibrillin-1 gene and I've researched that it could impede muscle development, but I also read that it is only in extreme situations. Does anyone have any advice as to what I should focus on? Should I try and push myself harder? Or should I just keep at it and hope something happens?

What are your goals? No one can truly answer your question unless you state your goals. Do you want to build muscle mass?

If so, get on a reputable beginner's routine.

And calculate your nutritional needs so you can gain weight:

Hmmm, try doing the opposite of what you do now maybe? Start doing MAJOR weightlifting and minor swimming. Don't have a "snack" EAT A MEAL (which includes PROTEIN) EAT FAT. Work out less days. Of course your stamina has gone up... you're doing stamina training and are obviously not taking in enough calories to build muscle... What's to be baffled about? Powercleans aren't meant to be done with light weight... 100+ pushups isn't going to help develop any fast twitch fibers thus you won't become much stronger... As for your medical condition, ask a doctor...

You should try reading one of the millions of things available to you searching key words like STRENGTH, HYPERTROPHY, BULK...
