Pretty crumby day in all. My sacrum?(area between hip and hamstring) is ****ing killing me. Hurt it at work last night but it felt better today so I tested it, should have quit at warmups but I'm young. Possibly the hardest set of DLs i've ever done. Walked away from the bar at rep 3 and almost gave up then I just threw my mp3 player down and grinded out two more nasty reps. And to make things worse I got a spot for bench and he touched the bar on every single ****ing rep.

It was difficult but not a true 1RM. Could have got another rep but didnt want to risk it. Hell walking is difficult now..
Going to be comparing tonage output and other variables between TM and Bill Starr Intermediate. I hate to change programs but my new job is going to be difficult to do this volume..

they are very similar if I recall, but 5x5 is always going to leave you feeling cooked.
but with all the work hours you would be better off doing something that'll let you get out of the gym quicker.
could always try the advanced 5x5, but then again still a ton of volume, but you don't have to hit weekly PR's.the latest and greatest in training...or whatever.

I think the 5x5 squats and 3x5 dls would murder me. For me volume is worse than intensity.
Was considering finally learning low bar since I'm going to do a deload. Most people claim when they learn to squat low bar their squat gets even stronger.
Maybe I should just change to low bar on TM therefore slightly deloading...Last edited by OdinPowered; 03-07-2013 at 06:52 PM.

Going forward my program is going to look something like this. trying to emulate Tom Martin's days of using gear.
Session 1
raw squats 3-6x3-x6
stiff leg dls 1-8 rep pr(beltless prs aswell) daily
bb rows 3x5-8
bench 3-6x3-6
session 2
front squats 3-5 x 3-5
ohp 1-8 rep pr daily
back extensions
session 3
squats up to 1-3rep pr(beltless, belted and warps alt.) then add suit for 1-3rep pr
bench 1-3rep pr up to 1-3 board rep prs
conventional dl 5-8 rep pr
session 4 once I accumulate
front squats ??
other assistance (close grip, etc)
Idea is to use the variants and reps to determine where my max is, increasing different reps and variations each week will let me know im progressing instead of just "getting better at 5s". Goal for my first cycle is to pull and squat my old maxes WITHOUT a belt or wraps. Might be a little off since I'm not sure what my conventional max is and sicne I'm relearnign to squat. once i get my bench shirt it will be easy to add in gear for that.

works been pretty tough. 6 12 hour shifts is practically your whole life...luckily this won't last much long. think next week i'll work 5 12s with the weekend off. doing my light session before work. starting back on 5's on ohp and hoping to get to 160x5 then taper to 3s and get to 175x3 then 205x1.
hip is still ****ed

Wanted 8 on the OHP but my shoulder pump was too much. I'll get 145x6 next time and taper down adding 5lb week. SLDL were extremely easy, doing to hit 405x3 DL next session which will be a new 1RM aswell as a 3RM for conventional.

Felt good to squat. Slightly bothered my hip but so does walking up steps. They felt hard but after reviewing on video they were extremely fast. Still going to take them slow and start at 1x week for now with front squats on the other 2 days.
Bench is strong. Upper back and lats were fried going into this session but that is a good thing! Meaning my form is improving, used to only my front delts felt sore.

just posting to get my count to 50
routine im doing is basically BL SS until my squats get where they should be. won't be doing the standard 3x5 for my OHP though as I feel they are more "advanced" than my other lifts. will be messing around with 1,3,5 and 8rm variations on them.
wife and daughter couldn't handle the new job so she texted me asking me "to please come home". now a lazy bum until I find something else.
