I heard on the radio and confirmed via the interweb, about a new gym in Vancouver that is interviewing potential clients and is only admitting people that fall into these 3 categories
- sedentary
- used to 'skinny' but has put on weight since
- always been 'heavy'
Apparently the reasoning is that 'heavy' people are being intimidated by fit 'gym rats'
Some concerns are; what happens once clients lose weight? do they get asked to find a new gym? :/
I was just curious what the woman on here, who are not 'skinny' but fit, think of this?!

such a joke. I'd imagine if a gym is full of overweight people they'll have to hire overweight trainers as well so they don't make them feel bad right? I'd also think seeing people who are in good shape will be motivational, maybe I'm wrong. The bottom line is most of these people make excuses not to work out whether it's that they're embarrassed or they're too busy or too tired or whatever.

I don't agree with it, but I believe in the Freedom to do what you want.
I mean ****, If I could go to a gym where everyone had to be 18 years or older with at least 1 year of lifting experience I would sign up today.
A company should be able to choose how it wants to run itself and what kind of clientele it brings in. If women want to go to a women only gym fine. If fat people want to go to a fat people gym fine. Ultimately it is another option for people to join the kind of gym they want. The customers should dictate if it is a successful business plan or not.
There is a fine line between discrimination here. It is universal that race discrimination is not tolerated, but now we are starting to see other types of discrimination and I can see a legal battle brewing.Transformation Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=170068283&page=1

I agree, that it is a fine line. I wonder what would happen if someone attempted to open a 'Men Only and must be under 15% Bodyfat' gym? I think its great that people who might otherwise not exercise, now feel more comfortable about doing so in this type of place, but I also think they are missing out on some great motivation. I think people tend to forget that everyone starts somewhere and we're at the gym to work on ourselves not judge others...

I guess it's their gym and they can do what they want with it. I don't see that being very successful. If you surround yourself with people who are at your same level of fitness or worse, how much will you improve?
I'm always more motivated and push harder when I see someone who is faster/stronger/ more shredded than I am. That encourages me to become better. If I'm next to someone who is heavier/slower/weaker than I am, I think, "Meh, I'm not doing too badly. Perhaps a cheat/easy day... or four."
Even when I was big and easily discouraged and intimidated, I wouldn't have wanted to join a gym like that.

If you and I were standing side by side and you were washing and I was drying? fine. I'd be all for it. If you were sitting on your *ss while I was cooking, washing the dishes and drying? then we'd have a problem.
besides I really have no idea what you had in mind with that towel reference but based on your post history in the fem misc I assumed it was perverted.
