Im also not an expert, but Im aware it's possible to determine, by genetic analysis, the geographic ancestry of a person and the degree of ancestry from each region. Such analyses can pinpoint the migrational history of a person's ancestors with a high degree of accuracy. So go for it

Funnily enough the last time I was asked and got the response 'that worked out well' (yes more than one person has said it) was when I met my partners mums Filo friends. But its usually a compliment, and I take it that way. I am an odd mix.
1. Say what your actual ethnicity/heritage is.
A mix of PNG, Malaysian & European (German/Welsh)
2. List all the things you've been mistaken for.
Kiwi, Tongan, Fijian, Aussie Aboriginal, Indian (the good curry making kind) - I am sure there are more, but those are the main ones hahaI'm not telling you its going to be easy, I'm telling you its going to be worth it.

Or the question 'where are you from'? Umm, we just met, you're not getting my address.... lol
And Sorry - I dont know how to multi quote when the posts are on different pages :SI'm not telling you its going to be easy, I'm telling you its going to be worth it.

I'm Indian... and I always get asked if I'm Indian. Haha. Damn, I'm so un-exotic...
Well, once a guy guessed Sri Lankan, Bangladeshi people think I'm one of them, and other South Asians tend to guess that I'm of a different but similar ethnic group than I am (both south Indian). It's like a guessing game.
It's always men that ask, too. Why does it matter?

I've been asked this all my life, and I never understood why so many folks need to know my ethnicity. It started in school, and still happens on a regular basis. I've even had women in restaurants come over, apologize for interrupting, but then ask what my ethnicity is. Over the years it's given me a 'bit' of complex that my racial mix is that 'alien' to so many people.

Interesting, thanks for that link. I did a home DNA test from the National Geographic 'Genographic Study.' The kit costs a hundred bucks, you swab the inside of your cheek, send the sample in and within a few weeks I was able to see an online map, tracking the path of my foremothers all the way back to mother Africa (Eve). As a female, I'm unable to track my paternal DNA. Only men are able to track both maternal and paternal DNA.

Quite obvious that she's mixed race, and quite lovely as well.“Any idiot can face a crisis, it is this day-to-day living that wears you out.” Anton Chekhov

I get asked about my ethnicity all the time, by women and men... I live in a very multicultural city and my "accent" is influenced by three languages so I guess that makes people wonder. I don't mind though as this always leads to interesting discussions about food and travel and language all those other things that make up a culture.

Haha, why do I picture Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises, but minus the Russian accent...
I am Greek but people always think I am from Italy/ Spain/ some kind of South American country... god forbid I speak a few words in Spanish because they start rattling off Spanish phrases at lightning speed and I am left with my mouth gaping open like a very confused goldfishIn the depths of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.

Go become an engineer and you'll get an Indian chick For a guy, if you workout and look reasonably fit, and a good guy, getting a girl wouldnt be too hard, right?
I hear about Indian girls and black guys. I think you should stay away from the very traditional families who'd want their kids to marry other Indians through arranged marriage. My parents are liberal, open to me dating outside my ethnicity and he doesnt have to be an engineer or doctor. I'm pretty open. His ethnicity doesn't matter as long as he's confident, good personality and great guy.

I used to get asked that a lot when I was younger, but lately its more like people just assume...and assume incorrectly. I think its rather rude to go up to a stranger and ask. My guess is maybe the guy is prejudice against certain races but found you attractive and just wanted to know if you were in one of his "ok to lust after or date" races.

Ok I'll play too...
1. I'm Cherokee, Choctaw, Welsh & German.
2. I mostly am assumed to be Hispanic or Latino, but sometimes also Middle Eastern. I have had people approach me many times and angry I did not speak Spanish. Because of my Southern accent when I worked as a phone rep I would be asked constantly if I was Irish or Australian which I have never figured out. Nobody ever guesses correctly.
