So I'm sure a lot of people on this board have had a chance to think about Joey's death. It was a month ago today that he was killed. Hearing the stories of how 911 failed in their response, there was no way to "track" him with GPS, etc... it seems as though a 5 hour car ride could somehow be tracked down and a murder prevented. It's been a battle against authorities since 911 was first called the night he was killed...
It makes you think how valuable life is and how valuable the people are around you. The other day I was sitting in on a meeting for a University Council on technology. Ever since the shooting sprees at high schools and universities, safety has been a huge issue. There has been a push to prevent catastrophes via technology (mass text message alerts, email alerts, automated calls, etc.). One of the organizations that spoke was a Rape Prevention group. They brought up a new smartphone app that's geared towards women in precarious situations. One of the apps (OnWatch) allows you to program a panic feature:
Panic: This is an alert mode designed for situations when may need immediate help. Those times when you feel vulnerable, for example, when you’re walking across an empty campus, entering a deserted parking garage, or studying late at night in the library, open OnWatch and tap the Panic icon to access a screen with a big panic button. If you feel threatened, double tap the Panic button. Your phone automatically calls 911 and sends text and email messages with your GPS info to notify preselected contacts that you may be in danger.
While sitting in the meeting, I couldn't help but think if things would have been different if his GPS info was sent immediately to his circle of friends. Figured I would bring this to everyone's attention and put yourself in either Joey's place or his girlfriends place. I for one, would never want to know someone I loved I was trouble but not know where to find them.Last edited by cal62887; 11-16-2011 at 12:03 PM.

There is a thread where an auction is currently being held to help Joeys family. Many supp companies donated product for others to buy and all proceeds go
to Joey's family to help with expenses. Check it out http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=139678063

I remember getting stuff from his auction. Wasn't a lot but I just hope it helped his family.

If I buy milk from the grocery store and get it home only to realize that the jug is expiring tomorrow...I sure as hell am not driving to punch a farmer in the face and tip his cow over.
